I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

It could be a reflection but it looks like it has really bad sun fade in the rear. If you do make the purchase, do the awd swap, its well worth it!

Nice find. Although an AWD swap requires a lot of fabrication from what I'm told it is something that would definitely be a good learning experience, and something that I wanted to attempt to do when I got my N/T. The way I look at it is it's your money and your car so if you really want it then go for it. It looks like a pretty sound car.

Correct me If I'm wrong somebody, and I may definitely be wrong, but the only modification is welding in the driveshaft carrier mounts. The front crossmember shouldn't need to be modified for the transfercase from what I remember.

Nothing in the front needs to be fabricated, the things that need to be modified is AWD calipers rotors struts axels in the front. I'll be using my entire suspension though since it's all brand new anyways, can't hurt anything... or will it? DUN DUN DUN

Is it a good car? worth it?

okay well of course, but how reliable is the car. I had a 99 eclipse rs never had a talon tsi awh. It has a MHI turbo 16g wiith everything else i posted

Not bad does it have any fuel mods? Stock ecu? I would ditch that tubular header before it cracks. Also the bov is not recirculated may cause idle/cruise rich condition issues may feel like the engine is going to die. Last but not least needs paint. Other then that decent price if you don't mind putting some work into the car. Always talk them down a few hundred dollars if you can. Don't forget you need to go over and calculate what needs be done to the car you don't wanna end up spending more then just buying a good nice running car with all that extra money you had to dump into that one.

I would stay away or be prepared to spend some money and do some work on it. It looks like an ebay 20g setup, the bov is vented. The battery is the wrong type and the positive terminal is very close to the TB elbow if it shifted and touched metal it could cause a fire. Ad says it needs a rear hatch, AC & PS fixed, needs door handle, tires. Doesn't say anything about if it has ecmlink or any way to tune it.

wow. yeah, that's all way over my head, but i had already been aware of the increase in maintenance and i already have my hands full learning about this gs here. but im glad for your responses. i was really looking at the value. to my newbie eye, it looked like a good cost per what you get, tho looks like you guys are looking a bit more into it, time, commitment...

99 Eclipse GS-T with only 40,000 miles on it and have a lot of aftermarket parts, and it needs to be tuned and also a leak between 02 housing and manifold. It is also custom painted yellow from red and also with the 6 bolt 1g motor swap $4500

Or a 95 Talon TSi tuned to 17 psi and supposedly in good condition and runs good with 6 bolt 1g swap $4800

What do you think?

It is all up to you and what you want out of your car, they both seem to be good deals. If your going to mod your car heavily and want to drag race or compete with it at all I would say go with the talon, also the talon if you don't have the money to fix the leak. If you are going to casually mod, and are not interested in competing a GS-T is also good. (You can still compete with a gst I think a lot of people would agree awd is better for it though) I personally own a gst and I love my car fwd has never bothered me so don't let that discourage you. It all comes down to what you want to use it for and your personal preferences.

How many miles are on the talon?

Right now it sounds like you are comparing two FWD 2g dsms with 6 bolt swaps. Personally the later model 99 gst with 40k for less money sounds like a way better deal (despite the paint mismatch if the engine bay wasn't painted too). If the Talon was AWD then i would jump all over that.

Do you have links to the F/S ads for the cars? Or some pictures of them?

If they're both FWD I personally would go with the talon, I'm not a big fan of yellow. If one is FWD and the other AWD then I'd go with the AWD one.

They seem like good deals on both cars though

Paid $1500 for 1997 talon tsi FWD nearly stock 146,000 with rod bearing issues k&n intake, greddy type rs bov, cat back exhaust, short throw unsure of brand just got car today interior is intact and unmolested (very clean) pillar 2pod cluster with boost and oil pressure guage has new tires and brakes with drilled rotors has receipt for $2300 for used tranny but whos to say mileage on tranny installed new clutch a arms on assenger side and about $1000 in misc. oem replacement parts and kyb adjustable suspension but with the rod bearings on cylinder one messed up could i still have dug a hole for my self? with machining costs new rods bearings time and money are valuable things and im new to the dsm world

also the battery was dead so ive never even started the motor and i bought it anyways =D

but few motors on craigs list for 400 or so but who knows if they are cashed or not

Any insight will be appreciated
