I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

I paid $2000 for my car in December, almost completely stock and 105K miles.

His price is good, but he doesn't say how many miles are on the car. Also, check the boots and axels, make sure they're in good shape. And check the trunk for rust.

yea, i like the pricing too, and im going to basic soon and ait training after that so i'd be coming back with like 6g to work on the baby, not only that but my uncle is the owner of beeyond egineering so ill take it to his shop.

Id try and talk him down. Rust holes? Please.. Youre talking $2k for a nonrunning car, with some aftermarket parts thrown at it. You can find a running car for a bit more than that, in good shape. Why not wait until after AIT and buy a clean one?

^+1 on that, Yeah buddy i would wait till your done with you Basic and AIT then go out and find a nice clean running DSM. He's not clear on why its not running and he only owned for a yr so theres a reason on why hes trying to get rid of it besides it current problem with not running, there could be a boat load of problems with this car that the seller isnt telling us in his add, I just get the feeling that he's trying to pass the problems on to someone else.

Hold out. That car looks like it might have a fair bit of rust on it as well. The only reason i would even sort of consider the car is for the parts. If he can furnish proof that that is a TRE trans (and it has to be >= stage 3 or a high torque build) then i might consider it if you plan on buying a built trans anyway. The only thing that scares me is that the car wont start.

What size HKS cams? Is he willing to take the valve cover off to verify?

If you were up to the challenge of parting out the things you wont need, and can verify that its a low mileage TRE trans(>=stg 3 || high torque) and verify the cams (a size that you'd want in your next build) then you might come out far ahead if you purchased it, kept the parts you need/want (trans/cams) then parted out the rest including the shell. After all of that you would still need to purchase a decent shell.

But that's a lot of work and sort of a risk.

true, i dont know i have been searching for a while he says it currently has 125k miles, for me this would be planned for a rebuild when i get back, though still considering rebuilding the starquest.

That looks like one hell of a headache car. It looks awesome on the outside but honestly scary engine bay. I say it's a parts car or at least tear it down and unfudge all that rigging. It's not worth 2K. The guys a dork for buying it in the first place. hehe.

Hey guys help me out here. It needs a little work but it runs and I think it's a pretty good price. Its not my first dsm so all the little stuff isn't hard for me to fix. He's supposedly bought a 16g to go on it and hes going to raise the price 300 bucks. Probably a ebay turbo but I'll fix that in time.

Honestly, I think you can find better.

" New motor with 100k have recipt " so, a "new" motor with 100,000 miles on it already? Not worth much imo.

A friend of mine just got a 97 gst on craigslist in Chicago with 110k on the body, everything is clean. He picked it up for $2100 with an original listing price of $2500. He drove it home and it runs great. Even got an extra set of rims w/tires on it.

If you really want that car I would suggest bringing him down on the price, a lot. Maybe $900 for a project that is missing door handles, side skirts, a battery, back seat, and is probably not running/put together, that would be one hell of a gamble, and even when its all put together you still would have paid too much imo.

you dont find dsm's that cheap up here in the midwest, up here that would be a 3-4k car, you people sir are very lucky getting good cars for cheaper, yea im not sure if he is mechanically inclined either, he claimed to used to be a dsm guy but says he likes hondas more now. WTF!! said they were too much work but, its not too much if you love what your doing. But so far im liking the car. probably most likely grab it, unsure though

That car was in Chicago.

I don't know man, why don't you try searching farther out. I'm sure you can find something decent.

was just wondering since i am a newbie if this car is worth the price? I am sure it is since i am searching for a engine for my car and cant find one as cheap as the price this guy is asking for the entire car. but let me know good deal? bad deal?
If i posted this in the wrong section i am sorry moderators.

Thread is probably gonna get moved, but before it does I would find out why he would spend money on a bike and not a trans LOL. I'd do a compression and leak down test before any offers. Also ask about maintenance and what not.

1990 talon tsi awd 5 speed
Ok what is this worth I talked him down to 700 and so I guess it has a bad fuel pump because I got him to talk straight to me. he tried to Bs me and kept changing the subject when I asked if I could put in the pump and fire it up so ill go there with the pump from my 2g and slap it on then start it. I hate the riced bumper and lights but a rust free talon with under 100k is impossiable to find in ny especially in Syracuse like me

I'm curious what your guys opinions are on these two vehicles. I'm still lookin to get another dsm since I regret selling mine and so far these are the only ones within range.

First:
***** 350 HP TURBO TALON/ECLIPSE
A long time ago this guy told me he was leaking coolant but never told me where. Seems its fixed now. Paint looks like utter shit. Any issues you guys see with it? Really doubt its 'built.' Not really worried about it being built because i know the stock block can handle the power easily. All I can tell is it might be a 6-bolt due to CAS? and intake.

second:
1994 Plymouth laser RS turbo awd D.S.M
The second one has a bad catalytic converter so it will not pass smog. Owner told me it needs an alternator belt as well. 90k miles is pretty odd for its year. All stock

I know I'm not going to get a response but the mods and admins insist it is necessary to post in this dead thread. Any help is appreciated. This thread needs an overhaul.... Hopefully I'm not just wasting my breath.

I would go for it. Body is clean and that's hard to find. Id ask to put the pump in and start it before buying though. Id get rid of the horrible tail lights and rear bumper, good deal I think. I paid $700 for my 96 tsi awd, no where near as clean and I had to deal with an oil pump :banghead: Id go for it.

What do you want to know about the first gen? Details?

Just wonder with the AWD is there anything that I might feel or hear that I should be scared to get it? When I drove it the only noticeable thing was the braking there was a little shake I am guessing rotors are warped a little. Just wondering is there anything else common. Selling a nightmare 2g and getting a 1G that seems to be babied pure stick but the exhaust. 56 year old guy had it until 4 years ago and the guy now babied it too.

Thanks for all the help love this community :D
