I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

My DSM is no longer something I can keep. I've had it for over 10 years now. In its glory was running 13's. Sadly now she to the economy the car has too many problems for me to fix. Including burning oil quite badly. I'm looking to get rid of it but realize it has no resale value to someone looking to drive it. I'm tired of it taking up space in my garage And was wondering what I should do with it. Pretty sure I could only expect a few hundred from a salvage yard and I don't have the time to part it out. Any suggestions on what I should do with it?

Post it for sale on here and Craigslist, I'm sure someone will buy it, and its probably not in that bad of shape. My 95 gst still has a great resale value, so I'm not sure why your 98 wouldn't plus it has the revised 7bolt. How many miles on the motor and sounds like you just need to do more maintenance to it bro and get caught back up.

I'm a certified mechanic so I know what I'm getting into. The car has almost 200k miles. Needs suspension and an engine overhaul. I already have a new car. This one was always just a project.

Well good luck with whatever you do. Try and sell the car bro let someone else revive the car instead of sending another to the dump. My gst has 240k and I'm just getting started with it LOL, na I've owned it for 15 years and finally blew the motor last summer at the drag strip. But this car is getting a new motor and engine bay overhaul and living to see another day! :)

You could always part it out and then sell the shell of what's left over to a junk yard. Depends on what you're looking to get for it though.

If I'm just looking to get rid of it.What should I try and sell it for? Guessing the salvage yard will only offer 2-300 for it.

Man, dont scrap it. I hate seeing any of these cars go to the scrapper unless theyre wrecked badly or rusted out. Put it up and sell it for cheap. I bought mine for cheap and they were going to scrap it. I saved it. Someone will save your car and have to deal with the endless headaches jk, but ya, put it up on cragislist and get rid of it. Part some of it out and sell the shell as a whole.

I've been in the dsm world for a while and I'm great at wheelin-n-dealin. My delima comes in because the guy is not concerned about selling the car and is no no way in need of money. here's the story it a 90 fwd tsi with only 81,xxx miles and all orginal. the car was parked on his property about 8yrs ago and hasn't moved in a solid 7yrs. i know for a fact it ran and was drove to where its sitting now. the car belonged to some guy he worked with who moved out of state and he hasn't heard from him since. so tje car has no title.I'm not concerened about this as i mostly want it for parts. like i said the guy is not worried about selling it or money. but i believe he will sell it to me. what do you think is a fair offer one tjat won't make him shut down and out right refuse to sell me the car. Not only do i want the car but i want to save it from its certain demise if i don't buy it. thanks

If you're just going to use it for parts, isn't that killing it anyways?

Nit really. I'm going to try and get the dmv to issue a title for it but if they won't then and only then will i use it for parts this way atleast something is getting salvaged from it. then i will give or sell the shel to somebody who wants to build a drag car. otherwise this car is sure to meet its demise in its current location. I have high hopes they will issue a title but i have to look at it likeits only going to be for parts or i will pay to much for it.

Thats how i hope to get it titled. i don't want him to do anyrhi.g. i want to hurry up and buy it before he changes his mind about selling it to me. he did tell me he bought a z28 without a title for $500 so maybe i should offer him like 400 dor the talon. That's kind of what I'm thinking i just was hoping for sime opinions on a price to offer him.

Hello, I am new to the forums and trying to grab myself a DSM so i can join the family. I am no mechanic, nor am I too familiar with DSMs in general. I am looking at this 95 GSX currently, but need some opinions on the car. I have no information about mods except the owners have placed a new timing belt, battery, water pump, drive belts, and apparently a new 16g turbo. Yes, I do see duct tape on the intake, but that is least of my concerns. I am also aware of the talon front bumper. I will post new info as soon as i contact the owner, but feel free to post any opinions.

Additional info given was it has 148,000 miles, it is being sold due to no longer needing it, but said it has no insurance. It currently runs on 20 PSI. They're asking $2500

I remember seeing this car recently posted on one of the facebook groups. Either "dsm ftmfw" or "dsm tuners"

let me see if I can find the post. I know it has a fairly old South Carolina license tag on it, we dont even use that tag anymore

My opinion for what it counts...

If you have a buddy that is familiar with DSM, take him with you to look at the car. Duct tape on the intake doesnt sound to thrilling. I have never heard of some one getting rid of a car because they just "dont need it" unless its truely one of those rare cases. Maybe they dont need to fix it everyweek for not correcting problems the right way and using duct tap on the intake is an example of that. I would hold on to the 2500 dollars, dont take the money with you when you go to look at it to prevent an impulse buy. You dont want to regret buying the car. There is a reason they dont carry insurance on the car and drive it every once and a while. Usually a paid for car is a wonderful thing that people want to hold on to.

Thats just some of the random thoughts that popped in my head. Use your brain. And dont make an impulse decision. Turbo'd cars are cool.... when they run.

Also... since you mentioned the lack of expierence of working on cars. I would think about that in this purchase too. DSM isnt exactly the most reliable thing on the road. Not to say that they cant be. Just saying in most cases they are not.

All in all in the end its your decision... I hope this helps.

Theres my 5 cents... keep the change. LOL

If the interior and body are in good shape I think it is a good buy. Specially since its a manual transmission correct?
