I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

Its worth 500 in parts, but your not going to make much "flipping" it. If you do fix it odds are you won't use OEM parts, then its going to be a ticking time bomb. 1g cars don't sell for much running or non running. Buy it fix it and drive it. Fwd is not that bad. Whats your goals that is the question.

Well, my goals are just to get it running reliably. I kept the stock exhaust manifold off my 2g gsx. I've been reading up on 1gs since I bought the car and found that the exhaust mani is very fragile. The IC pipes look like they are in good condition, but I might get a pipe kit from Punishment Racing, just for reliability issues.

Any other stock 1g parts besides the exhaust mani and IC pipes worth upgrading? Not for performance, just for reliability.

Part it out make your money back and then some. Call it a day. Who knows if you spend all the time and money to put everything back on to find out it had a bent valve or something of that nature. Dont bother with it. IF the car was running it would be one thing. Who knows what the kid really did to it. You will def make your money back if you part that car out the right way.

That's a legitimate point. I don't know what condition the engine is in. I might end up doing that. Who knows..

I say put it back together and see if it runs right, compression test, etc... If so, buy a fender and you just got yourself an awesome, sexy bullet-proof, disposable DD for under $600. Hell the paint even still has clear coat! So then, if a tree falls on it or a texting-teen t-bones you, you still get to pull the engine and ECU and break even. Or, you can sell it for $1500 before the tree falls on it.

BTW, FWD 1G turbos get insane highway mileage, and I like the rear wheels better.

But not everything is there, your going to use that old oil pump? You will need to invest real money to make that car reliable.

Check my OP, it came with a brand new OEM oil pump in the box.

That would be the best case scenario!! I'll keep my fingers crossed and letcha know how it goes!

I like the cat he looks like hes going to work on it for you. My cat is all over my cars he likes to walk on it after I spend all day cleaning it.

I just wanna know why ALL the 1gb Eclipse rear bumpers do that wavy thing...
My 1ga Laser and 1gb Talon bumpers never did that. But the two (and both were red come to think of it) 1gb Eclipse ones I had both did.

You didn't hear? Red 1gb eclipses can do a 1.9 second quarter mile in reverse. My bumper didn't have the right support mods...

The slurpee cup in the back seat is the cleanest part of the car :D jk

I would have bought it! Nice find

haha, when I brought it home you were totally right. Since I washed/waxed it, it's respectable. But if you want clean, check out my 2g GSX... if I may say so myself! :sneaky:

Please don't part them or crush them, RESTORE them. These 1g's are getting rear(and 2g's). People are just destroying them left to right like its a pest. Its a beautiful car weather fwd or awd.

We got idiots that think they know what they are doing and think they are gonna build a 2,000hp car and once they realized they can't, trash them and crush them <<<<<<<< these people make me angry(just my 2 cents)

That's a beautiful car bro, restore them. and im sure if you flip it and sell it later on you are gonna make money on it guaranteed.

If nobody parted/junked their cars you'd be paying 20x as much for everything OEM from the dealer rather than a couple bucks at the junkyard. Sure lots of cars should be restored... but I had a 93 Eclipse 4g37 with a blown transmission and 183k on the motor, as a parts car for my Laser. Would you restore that? I sure as hell wasn't going to. I used what parts I needed, held on to it for about 3 months selling parts off it so other people could get what they needed, then sold the rolling shell for $50.

Oh yeah, i didn't specify which should be nice to "see" restored. I was meaning to point out 4g63t equipped 1g's and 2g's because they are the performance icons and they are just getting rearer to find. All the other non 4g63's equipped cars are plentiful and should not be a concerned.

Yeah i agree with you about the expense of a dsm parts being expensive at dealers. But all i am saying is(part all you want) we need to be careful about what we are doing. I have seen too many dsm(4g63's) after they have been strip off their dignity they ended up at the dump being crushed. I am sure if you are in dyer need to dissemble a car and sold for a profit then go for it...,all i am saying is, i just want to see a car go back to our DSM community and let anybody a chance to enjoy our legendary cars.

I want to see a cycle of tuners who want to pick up a dsm(4g63 or others) and with a little knowledge and a rench, an opportunity to own a dsm and follow there dream and make it into a reality. Now is this too much to think about? This opinion of mine is not intended to flame people. I just want to get the message across to all dsm community of how important we need to keep these cars alive and out of the crushing yards.

I am also going to start a threat/post to raise awareness(DSM). I would encourage highly to anyone to participate and give their opinions. with all our inputs we can all understand each other and after all we all love our DSM's.

IDK that guy sounds like he has no clue what he is talking about. Seems kind of shady. If you can talk him down to $1500 at the most, I might consider it.

first off, the guy who posted (the craigslist ad) is a friggin retard. I have started my car with low miles on the engine at 55 below in Fairbanks. I would take a compression tester to test the cylinders and while you are there, pulle the CAS plug off and turn the motor over, if it really is a spun rod bearing you will hear it clunk as it turns over. If you hear nothing, do a compression check to just see whats up.

well he is throwing in a parts car all for 1800, so ill take it, my buddy has a 1g here, and it sounds like a spun bearing but its just lifters once it warms up it is good. Hell of a deal going to bring it up to me.
