I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

Sounds like the car might have been sitting without oil and he started it and threw a bearing. As for the shouldnt start in 20 degree weather bullshit, who knows maybe the lifters are ticking. Anyhow, the body looks clean and has some descent mods. Buts its not worth 2 grand with a blown motor

Make sure he has the title ### i have a boy who got screwed that way, the guy told him his friend said to sell it and sense he wasn't the owner the guy called the cops and my boy lost the car and 2500.

He has title, his friend put it up for him.. I made sure he sent me a pic of it..So good there, a whole other motor and extra parts are with the car so 1800 for car and another motor that needs rings and alot of extra parts hes driving 5 hours to bring it to me.

looks like a clean car to me,i would say go for it.I know where i live it dosent get that cold but maybe minus 15 but my gsx starts right up no probs.bty if you buy it you can sell me the safc LOL.

there is a 1995 eclipse gs for sale in my area,
it has 154,000 miles on it
freshly rebuilt head
flomaster full exhaust
monroe suspension
the guy wants $2000
good deal or no? im sure i could talk him down a few hundred bucks but this will be my first dsm and if i do get it, i plan to pull the 420a motor, rebuild the bottom end wth forged parts and lower compression, my reason for that is because i will also be adding a turbo somtime in the future, anyways,
is the price good? or should i keep searching?

Keep searching and get a GSX. I have a very clean 1g GS-T but I wish I had a GSX, but I only spent 1,000 bucks. I think you could get a better deal. Don't waste your time with the 420a.

I agree, keep looking for that GSX. I settled for a gs and wish I would have waited to find a turbo model.

I agree! Go turbo to start with!! I did the NA first just cause I had to have a car and I found a clean one but wished I would have waited... Now that I have my TSI I would never go back.

whats wrong with the 420a motor? found a 95 gst with less miles for $1600, needs a battery and tires though, what kind of motor do the gst's run?

Its just not worth the hassle time and money to switch to a turbo set up... it is way more involved than just lowering compression. There are some really good write ups on it in vfaq.com check it out!

here is some probobly useful information..
im only 15 years old...this will be my first car, iam very very into and smart with mechanics, ive rebuilt engines and transmissions before, ive been researching the crap out of 420a's lately and how to turbo them, i see how involed it is and how much money it can cost and to me, it sounds like a fun project...
this is also the cheapest (by far) eclipse in my area, the gst i mentiond before already sold.

Do what you gotta do but in the long run if you spend a little extra on the gst gsx tsi now then you end up with more car to start with and all the money/time you would spend on making it a turbo you can then spend on mods instead!
