I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

There's no point to find a cheap NA, just to turbo it. For $2k, you could buy a running driving 1g AWD DSM. I'm guessing you like 2g's though. If you want to toss a bunch of money at putting a turbo, on to a non turbo, why not just use the extra money to buy an already turbocharged car, that is built to be boosted. If you want FWD, find a GST. Comes with a 4g63t (the "T" means turbo, in case you didn't know). Want to find a cheap 420a to boost, buy a neon.

Yup I only paid $2,100 after tax n title for my 90 with only 120,000 on it. Clean inside and out and ran like a champ...

AWD is greater...BUT.... I would say thats a pretty damn good deal.I paid 5k for mine bone stock with 80k a few years ago.

EDIT...You say first car? What makes you think a turbo car is a good first car?How old are you?Are you responsible enough to not drive it like a idiot? Are you prepared for hell mantaince?

That's actually not terrible, if you don't mind FWD, I'd go for it after measuring crankshaft endplay.

My first AND second cars were GSTs (1g and 2g respectively). If this kid can learn to type, he'll be fine.

Not a bad deal.....

As far as maintance, just make sure all the necessary stuff is done, and its not been mistreated.

I had 0 problems for about 2 years...then i wanted a bigger turbo, new this, new that... then the problems started LOL.

Or the oil cap is leaking, I will bet the lock soleniods are frozen in the power locks which is why the door locks don't work. The door lock solenoids are $155 each thats why they don't get fixed often. I have had to fix all those problems in mine already. LOL. Doesn't sound like a bad deal so far

It looks like oil is coming out of the oil cap because theirs oil surrounding the outside of it leading to the puddle of oil and the other top end of the VC is dry..i think it might be the oil cap, i saw other threads that had the same problem.

The car in this thread is now for sale in the marketplace for $650 obo and a promise not to part/scrap the car after you buy it from me.

Why would you sell something with strings attached? Once somebody owns something, isn't it theirs to do what they want with it?

i feel that way and at the same time dont. i would not sell my vr4 to someone who was going to put a body kit on it and a ### wing. but if someone bought my GS i wouldnt care at all

Because, like DSMReviver, I want to see DSMs restored not killed. I'd rather see it go to someone who wanted to fix and drive it. And obviously I'd have no control over what the person did with the car after I sold it, haha calm down

Plus, IT'S MINE, I can sell it however I want! LOL

I understand you can sell it to whoever you want but to think you can realistically sell it to someone under the condition they do not change their mind in a year and decide to resell it or part it out is whishful thinking. Lets say I buy it and my intention is to build it up. Then a year down the road, I have a kid, bills get tight, and I need to sell it or part it out. Does that mean I need to call you to get your permission first? Not trying to start a fight or anything, just saying people change their mind all the time so not matter how many promises you get, that doesn't change the fact that things change and ultimately after it leaves your posession you have no control over what happens to it. I hate seeing these cars go into the hands of ignorant ricer kids too but I am not going to have the kid lie to be about what his intentions for the car are for the sake of the sale.

I dunno, I just see people get bent out of shape when they sell stuff to people and then try to get pissed about what that person did with it afterwards. If you care that much about what is done with an item, ultimately you should just keep it because you can't control what anyone else does.
