I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

Why would you get back in another dsm and WASTE all that money AGAIN??? That car is 12 years old with 123k miles. Don't do it!

wow. really? I thought this was a pro-dsm forum.

I don't want another one because I think they're reliable, or a great value. I want another one because I've missed my old one so bad for years, loved that car! DSM's are the only cars I know inside and out, they're fun, just awesome cars in general. Gotta have another one!

Really? Than i must have gotten a steal when I bought my old 2g for 1,000 running....

It looked alright to me, yea 6 owners is kinda ridiculous but who knows.

Sorry you didn't win it, but take your time looking man. I found my GSX on ebay... paid 5k for it, bought from the original owner with only 42k original miles on it. Spent about 6 months looking for the right one though haha. There are always good deals out there, and with spring time coming along here shortly, I'm sure you'll find plenty of better deals. Good luck.

A guy advertised this as a non-running 92 GSX. Complete car, just needs to be put back together. He wanted $600 because he was in a bind for money. I looked under the car and saw it was a fwd GS-T. I told him I'd still purchase, as soon as he got the title clean. While I was waiting on that, his mom backed into the fender with a ball hitch. :toobad: He took 100 off the price, so I picked this up for $500. Everything appears bone stock and it came with a brand new oil pump.

Other than the fender, the body's straight and the paint is decent; Rust is not present except minimal rust on the inside door runners. As for the engine, the timing belt, pulleys, oil pump, and other stuff is pulled off and in the trunk haha! I WAS gonna use this as a snow beater but since it's a fwd, I have no idea what my plans are now! I guess just get it running, and if I like it, keep it, if not, sell it. :idontknow:

So, I need help from all you FWD and 1g experts out there!! What would you do with a car like this, and do you think it was a good purchase?

Here are my thoughts so far:

1. Buy new clear headlights
2. Buy two matching rims (do you like the front or back rims better?) hehe
3. Buy four tires
4. Buy or repair fender
5. Put engine back together
6. Drive
7. Sell or Keep

The pics are the day a brought it home. The last three are after I have it a bath! Thanks for looking!

Nice find for five hundred. There is a white one very similar to that I am planning on picking up next week or two.

Salvage title, Bad Fuel pump. Small collision damage in left rear quarter. Says it was driveable when parked. Wants 500. I figure for 500$ thats an extra set of wheels/tires, A new windshield, hatch, and fenders for my old car. And a spare injun.

Thanks, guys! Do you guys notice anything in particular with the engine bay or with the stuff in the trunk? There was a 2g stock air intake in the trunk, so... yeah. just checkin' if you see any WTF parts on/in the car haha

I thought those things were a myth. All of the ones I have seen look like this

Good find. Put it together and drive it. FWD is not that bad unless you plan on adding a bunch of extra power to it. I'm on my 2nd FWD, and don't mind it. sometimes it is a little aggrivating, but it's only when it's raining, I'm out of patience and just want to pull out in a hurry or something. There are the upsides to...occasional burnouts just because...beter fuel mileage... better gear ratios... Everything is not lost in FWD my man!

Looks like you got a great deal man, she cleans up nice. I would go with the back rims. Fix her up, drive her around and go from there. If you don't wanna keep it you sure as hell can make some money by selling it.

Fix and flip, but I hate FWD; especially in the snow, RWD or AWD only!

... maybe it's just me but I'd much rather have a FF than FR in the snow.

Well to be fair, a lot of people dont know the difference between a GST and GSX and GS.

I cant count the number of times I have asked people if their 2g is and RS and gotten "Hah I wish it was 4 wheel drive... Nah this is just a base model"

Or

"Yeah, I like GSTs but If I were gonna gonna get an eclipse I would have to get a GSX so I could have a 5 - speed."

or
"Yo dude I though you said this was an eclipse, only the talons came factory turboed"

WTF Is that black round can like object on the end of your intake snorkel?

haha, I think it's iron man's helmet! I'll be taking that off when it runs again. :thumb:

haha his mom back into it with a trailer hitch ROFL

yeah.. how does a parked car that doesn't run get into a wreck??

The moment I saw it was a FWD I would have ran. Not because I hate FWD, but because I am not going to buy a car from a liar.

I think the guy didn't know any better since there was no badging on the car. He was a trans-am guy, so I guess he thought turbo=gsx.

Why is the timing belt off ?

He took it off, along with a bunch of other things, trying to get to the oil pump off.

Its worth 500 in parts, but your not going to make much "flipping" it. If you do fix it odds are you won't use OEM parts, then its going to be a ticking time bomb. 1g cars don't sell for much running or non running. Buy it fix it and drive it. Fwd is not that bad. Whats your goals that is the question.

Part it out make your money back and then some. Call it a day. Who knows if you spend all the time and money to put everything back on to find out it had a bent valve or something of that nature. Dont bother with it. IF the car was running it would be one thing. Who knows what the kid really did to it. You will def make your money back if you part that car out the right way.
