hi can you guys tell me the difference between all the 2nd gen eclipse GSX that came out. all i know is that they all have a AWD system as well as leather, after that i have like no clue. of course having any GSX is awsome but for personal perference which GSX would you guys recommend. 1995-1999?.

Personally i belive the 98 GSX is really nice. The one i have has alot of black for the dash so its not flooded with a bunch of gray. You can check the interior in my gallery pics. Plus the 97s-99s have the better front and rear bumpers IMO.

I agree, the 98's are beautiful, but you'd be fine with any of them. The one thing I got tired of on my 95 was the smiley bumper, but many people like them so that's a personal preference. Overall though, for interior setup and such, I liked the 97-99 the best.

I always liked the 99's with the full black leather interior option, I test drove a silver 99 Spyder with this and it looked really clean.

There are very little subtle differences in 97-99 GSXs.

1) 97-98 GSXs have black instrument clusters, 99s have white. This is when the GS with the turbo-look package came out too.
2) I believe in 99, limited slip was standard. In 97-98 it was an option
3) 97 ECUs are cased in metal, 98-99 they are plastic
4) GSX A/Ts have built in tranny coolers, manuals dont have it

99's have redesigned lifters(no lifter tick). and i was told by a reputable shop that they have a better designed block that is less prone to crankwalk.(still a 7bolt though)

haha if it were up to me i would choose the 97-99 soley because of its face. for some reason i find the "smilely face" well to 'not-provoking". it just doesnt seem like a machine you would be afraid of although nto knowing whats behind the engine. is there anything i should know about chooseing a 1997 over a 1998 or 1999 and vice-versa. i mean its great even to own a GSX (very soon i will :sneaky: :) ) i just want to totally research the cars even if they are basically the same model. i believe the company would at least upgrade or fix the errors of a car for next years production. that why im weary in the difference between the GSX(s). plastic over metal ECUs which is better i have no clue..... (bad rythme i know just wanted to sound cool  ) please feel free to comment on anything on the GSX i mean persoanlly i believe they are the best type of DSMs.

its more or less 97/98 vs 99 models...

your main differences are that 99s had:
- OZ Rally Edition Eclipse GS (had OZ rims, white face guages, and turbo wing)
- Black Interior was a OPTION
- LSD came STANDARD
- I have a hard time believing that the 99 models are less prone to crankwalk, more so the production of the 99 vehicles were lower thus it may seem like crankwalk is less in these years..HOWEVER they do use 3rd gen lifters...which helps prevent lifter tick.

id go with 98-99 due to the fact the 97's had the highest % of Crankwalk. Not saying it would but its always better to have the year the results that came out less and id say no to 95 due to that bad batch of bearings that came out so old style 2g- 96 newer 2g-98-99 but id go with the 98-99 since the bumpers look nicer and the side skirts look better

from what ive read (yah i read your guys comments and spend time reflecting on them i dont skim them like some people :toobad: ) it seems the neutral one r the best year for a GSX would be the 1998 one due to the 97 and its crankwalk percentage and 99s well.... 99s errr nevermind the best option would be the 1998 and 1999 if it were for safety and reliability. still all the GSX have AWD and that a thumbs up :thumb:

ive never seen a gst with the power driver seat. All the GSX's ive been in 97-99 have them.

WTF? Mine doesn't have the power driver seat for some reason.
Also, mine had lifter tick......fixed it though.

sorry to sound like a newb but i am one hence why i post here :D can you guys tell me what lifter tick is?

Prior to 1999 model year, the 4G63 engines are prone to lifter tick, which is literally a ticking noise heard from the engine bay during startup. More prevalent during cold starts, this is more of an annoyance than a problem. Remedy to this is to buy new updated lifters (approx. $160). I personally use Restore oil additive and I got rid of it.

about the third gen lifters, are they the same as the ones used in the 1999 3000gt, cuz those are called 3rd gen lifters also,...just wondering so i dont have to look for a retailer if i need some, (i already know of one for 3/s)

i think that the 1g's are better. u dont see that many on the street and the ones u do see are being drove by some old person that makes it a complete sleeper.

It's not an issue which one is better, both are great cars and had proven their worth in streets and track. I like both but in the looks department, I love the 2Gb. That's why I cant let go of my car.

Would any aftermarket lifter get rid of lifter tick. I did an engine flush and ran some Lucas stablizer and ti got rid of my lifter tick but its is starting to come back every once and a while but now how it used to be.

Mine came with power driver seats. It's a 95 GST. It also has the optional leather package. Just wanted to speak up.

i have a 95.. with leather.. LSD.. power seat.. and EEPROM ECU.. and 97-99 look.. guess i got the best of everything :thumb: except the 99 only all black leather interior which is THE BEST interior for all the 2Gs.. the 97+ have power antennas and that garage opener thing in the driver side visor. i also have seen some 97s with AL GREY interior also like the 95-96 but the a/c vent in the center and the cruise control portion is black compared to the 95-96 which is also gray.. also there is a rare bluish interior that the 95 maybe 96 also.. that has popped up.. (there is a post about it.. search.. not to mention a coworker of mine who has a 95 confirms this because he has the blueish interior).. also it is said (dont take my word) that early 94 build date 95s are less prone to crankwalk

99s got rid of the stupid air control on the dash vents.

You'll go nuts trying to figure what was standard, what was optional and what got changed. The factory manuals aren't right, the sales fliers aren't right, and the rest of it could have been swapped-out at the dealership to satisfy a particular customer's desires. I only saw proof of blue interior plastics a couple of months ago, and I don't know where you'd find documentation on that.
