what is the best way to put cold air intake in

i did a little research and i say alot of 1g setup but not very many 2g and i was wondering what would be the best way to do and where can i get parts for it cause of that mafs... i was wondering if there is a way you can stick it down your fender or is there a better ideas
 
So you are trying to tell me I pretty much have no choice but to go with short ram for my car.... they don't make a intake For the other side so you can run a cold air intake down the fender

If you dont have a SMIC then here is some ideas.

If you still are on your stock sidemount, a short ram would be your best bet as you aint fitting a filter down there with the SMIC.

Yes, there are no true cold air intakes for these cars. You will not benefit from one in the first place because the air will automatically be heated up in the turbo charger. You will be better off with a bigger intercooler than making a cold air intake.

Yeah that would be better than a "cold air intake". Ram is the way to go. Im currently planning on doing something with my passenger side headlight to funnel more air in there

You won't notice any gains from it. With a turbo car the turbocharger is forcing air into the engine at a high volume, the little extra that you might be pushing in with a ram air setup will be nothing compared to what is being forced in by the turbo. If you want to make more power get a boost gauge, a boost controller and turn the boost up a little bit.

A ram air setup would help spool times though. It wouldn't make more power but an easy mod to improve spool is never bad.

I don't really even see it helping with that. When you are already moving you can just downshift to a lower gear to get more rpm's which will bring the boost on fast anyways. I am not sure if you guys understand the volume of air going into the engine and just how fast the turbo actually spins.
 
If the air is being pushed in instead of sucked in, it would help it spin and spool up. Wouldn't be drastic but it would help.
 
bryanwheat is right if your car is turbocharged your not really going to benefit from a cold air intake at allthe air going through the turbo will be heated and then cooled by your intercooler for a N/A a cold air will benefit you but only if you have an aftermarket exhaust will you even really notice anything the only thing i sugest for a turbocharged dsm is maybe a ducting system the longer you make the pipes with adding it into your fender the longer the air has to travel with turbos you want the shortest route possible
 
buy from ebay there is a short ram with filter and adapter and all for around 35 USD on ebay , bought it before and tried it, its ok and makes your BOV way louder :) thats the only benefit i guess other than it looks nice in the engine bay also. maybe the spool time is slighlty very slighlty increased.
 
You could build up a "cold air box" that separates the hot under hood temps from the filter. I have been lazy and haven't done one yet but a bunch have made them from everything from signs, sheet aluminum, fiberglass, and every form of gettoness.

Ha I was just about to post this as their has been a littke debate about the CAI vs the short ram. Very interesting read.

Bryan what do you think about that thread? I have learned alot from you and would like to hear your thoughts.
