Finally got my sending unit done. I’m happy how it turned out even though it didn’t go quite how I wanted it to.

Got the fuel supply for 500 but not the drivetrain to handle it……..

As always thanks to the vendors that keep us going.

Was supposed to assist my cousin do a clutch swap in his Laser today but he had a change of plans so I putzed with the Talon.

The flat part on the rear parallel to the ground that the tank bolts to was half gone. I snapped a pic here of what I started with. It's not a great pic but you get the idea.

I got to work on removing the whole piece with a spot weld cutter. When all was said and done this is how it looks now.

So you can see the bottom of the very back sheet metal that is perpendicular to the ground is a little rough.

I'm going to cut it out and replace part of it too so I have something good to weld to for the replacement of the part the tank bolts too.

If you see my crude phone edit, I'll cut out this part, put a new piece in, then I'll bend a piece to weld back in for the tank mount.

I've got measurements and bolts to act as the new studs. Once done I'll post up more pics.

Mind you, in no way, shape, or form am I any kind of fabricator. I'm not much of a welder either, but we'll see how this goes.

Oh, this is the mess I cleaned up when I called it a day.

When this part is done the next step will be to clean up the hole in the hatch floor to make it not so rough and fab a cover from aluminum sheet. I was thinking I might actually make a mount for my fuel pump set up on it for ease of access/removal.

It's getting cold here so I thought I'd see how the FuelTech handled an ethanol cold start, about 50F in the garage today. It took a little persuasion but it went. I'll need to dial in the temp compensation some.

People always day add more fuel for e85 cold starts. I get better results taking fuel out..

My Dad came over to the house for a little today.

I removed everything and just had him lend a second set of hands while getting the “freshie” on there.

I did smash my hand courtesy of the subframe though.

Need to figure out something about the old bolts on the car too. They kill my vibe.

I went thru the 93 TSI and corrected all the vacuum lines that the previous owner had ran wrong. Corrected the oil catch can issues and hunted for the gas smell in my cabin to no avail

Ordered a few small things while trying to decide what turbo to go with. Got my fp manifold to turbo bolts, water pipe o-rings, and a thermostat housing gasket to replace since I had to remove to access water pipe o-rings. fp mani showed up today so my wish list is getting smaller!!!
What turbo(s) are on your wishlist?

I can relate...even when I bought my first DSM in 97 I was all alone LOL. I had friends but I was the leader of the pack because they ALL had hondas and couldn't keep up. They helped with my exhaust and that was it 🤣

Tried to start it. It's not ready to drive yet, but I wanted to hear it run. Alas, there's bad news.

It wouldn't even turn over. I'm assuming it's a bad starter because this car sat outside in the elements for like 10 years. It's either a bad starter, or bad starter wiring. Both are equally as likely. Although as I type this, it occurs to me I have never tried to spin the motor over by hand. *facepalm* I really hope that's not the problem. Also, for some reason the key I have only turns ALMOST to ACC. It never makes it past that. IDK if the tumblers are rusty from sitting(there is some oxidation on the metal/aluminum all inside the car), or if it's the wrong key. Either way, huge bummer. Gonna have to address that. I pulled the actual ignition switch and used a flat-blade screwdriver to power the car off and on, and that works...thankfully. I squirted some penetrant into the lock itself but still no dice. I have no clue how to pull the actual lock/tumbler assembly, so that'll require some digging.

Good news though, is ECMLink and therefore the ECU, is all connected and wired properly. Hooked power up to the terminals, and the ECU booted up and connected to my laptop on the very first try. I can see coolant temp, front o2 voltage(just sitting there it's at like 0.0-0.2 volts. Normal???), TPS, and etc. The ECU itself was setup for speed density, so that'll have to be fixed. But, fuel pump primes, and everything I can see says the ECU and Link are hunky dory. Take victories where I can get them.

Also the fuel feed adapter for the rail needs a new o-ring. It sends a stream of fuel shooting like 3-5 feet in front of the car. LOL

So I got this in the mail today and they are supposed to be 10an and 8an I don't have any fittings yet to try it but the smaller one looks more like 6an right? Also I've never hooked one of these up what are the loose wires for and what does the brass fitting on top go too?

10an measure 21.8 mm across the threads
8an measures 18.9 mm across the threads
6an measures 14.1 mm across the threads

Here's comparison pics of 10, 8, and 6. Took a 2nd of the 10 next to the 6

Just added another pic with a brass colored 8 so you could see it clearer.

6an would be 3/8 inch ID and 8 an would be 1/2 inch ID

It's actually not.

At the tip of 6an the ID is 7.5mm (.29")
At the tip of 8an the ID is 10mm (.39")

Even the hose ID might not be that. For PTFE 6an is 5/16" id, 8an is .394" id, and 10an is 1/2" id.

Here's the small one

Looks like 8an to me.

Another note, the tip of the 6an will fit in the end of the 10an all the way to the first thread. An 8an won't even go to the bevel.

Okay so from this diagram it looks like the brass fitting ends up going to the other tank. Right? Then my last thing I'm trying to figure is what this bunch of wires goes to (w/yellow)
