Pulled the doors off today. Going to start trimming and pulling the fat out. Just the Driver side door alone weighed in at 84 lbs! We'll see what it ends up weighing when done.

Jose, I'm interested in what you do with the doors since I have never messed with mine. Are you keeping the factory door trim? I can't remember if yours was already removed or not. Also are you keeping the impact bar or gutting that too? Post pictures!

ArcticTsi how soft and floppy is the hood with none of the cross members in it

Not any more flimsy than a fiberglass hood. I did not take it all the way to the edge of the hood. So there is still a trim ring around the whole hood that adds to the support. I will say that once I no longer care about the stock outside appearance and go all race mode. I would trim the whole thing. Cut out the hinge bracket supports and the front latch hook. I would also remove the hood hinges and the hood latch mechanism and the mechanism support bracket which runs vertically across the face of the radiator. That would be close to 20lbs in savings easy. But of course your hood "skin" would need at least 4 hood pins and install it much a like a RC car body.

I did have the door trim on mine. But I think I am going to remove it all. The plan is the gut the door completely of all wiring, speakers, motors, rails, impact beam and any other extra metal. The window I plan to cut a piece of smoked Lexan and mount it locked in the up position. My goal is just to get it as light as possible. I really want to push the limits of the car. But I will say down the road I will be putting a cage in the car when I get serious on the road course circuit. Will put pictures up for sure.

nice i killed the hood latch and am going to the 4 hood pins for putting the hood on already. just was wondering about how stong the stock hood would be untill i order the fiberglass hatch and hood.

Tightened my lugs. After 75 miles the came loose and it sounded like a $500.00 repair. Glad it was only a 5 minute fix. I'm an hour from home! Lol

well i was here for the fed ex guy so i got my bushings in and the car is up on stands and the work begings.. getting my sway bar links tmr to continue my work . and getting my FMIC since i got a hook up here soon thanks to a new DSM buddy . im a VW guy but dam i love these DSM cars !!!! ok bacardi and tools here we go

Installed

New Dorman Control Arms
Engery Suspension Bushing C-Arm
"" Yeah Yeah, Take me to Hawaii"" it finally took an Front End Alignment.

Rear Struts: Now these where not what I taught at first. Easy Right!!!!! Not with the rusty ole thing had the OEM 22 year old struts on it. The Inner steel bushing on one site was rusted on like someone weld the B' on. I had to hand chisel the B' off by hand. I wish I had Air tools.

Rear struts on and rides brand new.

New Rear Hactch Shocks

Took the headliner out. Nasty old thing. I have the Shell Scrapped off and pretty much all of the Interior plastic out.

Question: I want to paint the Shell of the headliner. I hear it is a preference thing. What about a thin layer of plexiglass and then paint it as a hard shell?

Any Idea's?

Snapped my driver's side axle at the drag strip last night. You can read about it all here: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/dsm-build-journals/418713-9-eclipse-n-t-turbo-fwd-street-drag-autox-3.html#post152916629

Removed front bumper, stock sidemount & piping, for Front mount install. But more importantly I got DSMLink ordered and OTW! So ####ing excited!

I found 2 massive boost leaks and repaired those. I also got rid of the cruise control and installed a non cruise throttle cable.

Just finished my first door! I started with the driver door. The key is to take your time with Dremel & Metal cutting wheel. Also used a jigsaw with a metal blade. So it is doable without damaging the door at all. My goal is the keep the sheetmetal on the outside looking pristine.

So now the good news. My door before I started weighed in exactly at 84.1 lbs.
The door with factory side mirror and a lexan window now weighs 40.04 lbs.

Here are a couple progress photos. Bear in mind I trimmed heavily and pulled everything I dont need. Even pulled the fat from the locking mechanism, which also had a sensor or two attached to it. I've known many of folks have done this mod, but nobody ever said they lost 44lbs. So I was suprised by the weight savings. So now on to the passenger door.

Is it legal to remove the crashbars? Thats a huge # just from the doors!

Took the car to the local 1/8th and made a few passes; it was the first time I had ran in over a year!

Some of you have been very busy doing amazing things with you cars. I fixed a crack on the top of my radiator with Gorilla Tape. (Just to keep it until the new one arrives.)
