What can I do for a motor swap?

I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. It has the 420A motor with no mods and 145000 miles. I would like to swap out the stock motor for something else. What motors can I put into my eclipse? I have a good sized bank so I plan on spending every penny of it to build up my eclipse (all motor). Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Adam

unless you are planning to spend upwards of $10k on this project, i'd just go out and get a cheapy honda. they have quite a bit larger selection of parts and are much lighter than eclipses. plus, it would cost less with the honda.... even though we all hate hondas, its a proven fact.

Thanks for the info Bartels903 I will look into. Brute I know about Honda, one of my friends is a Honda freak. But!!! I am Mitsubishi all the way and yes I plan on about $13k for my build up. If anyone else has any more info that would still be great.

Thanks again

But!!! I am Mitsubishi all the way

Not to sound like a dick or anything but the motor in your car is from Chrysler. Its a neon motor. They used that motor on the 95 and ups to increase the domestic (US) content of the car.

For 13k if you just purchased a factory turbo DSM, you'd have one killer fast car. The general consensous is that it is a waste of money to swap a motor in a 2G RS or GS. It isn't really a motor swap like hondas. Requires alot of costom fab work.

I agree with jastermerrel... Selling the GS and buying a GSX or TSi would be less of a hastle and more cost-effective with more potential. Put that much money into a turbo DSM and you've got a rocket. However I guess if you're hooked on having an N/A tuned car go for it.

All motor wouldn't be worth the money. It would be much easier to buy an AWD drive car, or any stock turbo DSM, and build the motor with a turbo and fuel system. For 13,000, you can have a DSM in the 10's or 11's if you know what you're doing. :thumb:

So you are gonna spend all your money on a motor, only to have a FWD turbo (maybe). 6 months after you wasted all your money doing that, you will want AWD. And then you will want to sell your converted GS and get an GSX...

Just buy an AWD now! :thumb:
