Sup guys, looking for a suggetion on which cam n springs to use. i keep buying parts for the car and they either dont work or break other things. I was told by the last person who tuned my car, that i need bigger cams. I have HKS 264/272 on my 2.3 stroker, looking to make a lil over 600hp and only able to make 432hp.. They told me to go with GSC S3 and other people are telling me to go with kelford cams, so this means that i have to change my SI dual springs because they wont work with this cams.... Can someone help me out here, i really wanna see this car make good power but im running out of options. Dont know what else to do! :banghead:

This is what i have:
2.3 Stroker, Wiseco 9:1 piston,0.20 Manley I beam,Eagle 100mm crankshaft,Kiggle main girdle,ACL bearings, Fluidampr Damper, Bshaft remove,ARP head studs,3 angle valve job,Custom sheet metal intake manifold,SI dual springs and retainers,SI nitride valves,272/264 HKS,T4 tubular manifold, Precision turbo billet wheel 6268,ACT 6 puck,ACT 2600 pressure plate,Fidanza flywheel,AEM wideband,3" downpipe,FIC bluemax 1450,Walbro pump in tank and bosh 044 inline,MAF, DSM link v3 full..

You can't go wrong with the GSC S2 or S3 cams. They are a very good set of cams. Kelfords are good too. But you definately need bigger cams with your current setup.

I would go with Kiggly beehive valve springs personally.

I see what you saying, so you think i should be good with the S2 or S3 with kiggly springs? Because i keep seeing people using the GSC springs more then the kiggly, they both about the same price amd GSC only reccomend the 5041 with those cams

Kigglys will work great, but then again so will GSCs valve springs. I would just go with whichever one is cheaper. They are both top of the line valve springs, and either one will easily get the job done.

How far are you revving the 2.3L? 9,000 at the most? I would say go with the GSC S2s.

I was told no more then 8500rpm.. But if I'm better off going with the S3 I would get them, like I said before. Everything I order for the car either don't work or break things.. Like I bough brand new 2900 pressure plate, and it mess up my tranny. So I had to spend and extra 1400 to fixed by shepherd.. I'm just trying not to keep making the same stupid mistakes

Which kiggly springs, I think they have 2 different ones?

I'm running kelford 280 cams with supertech dual valve springs, and rev to 9-9250 at the track all day long with no issues!

I wouldn't use S3s if you are only revving out to 8500rpm. S2s would be better suited to put the power band right in your RPM range.

Yes, Kiggly as 2 different sets. The street set has hardened steel retainers, the race set has titanium retainers. They use the same high pressure spring. He says the street set is good for 10,000 rpms(the only limiting factor is the steel retainers), it allows you to use OEM valve seats as well.

If I were you, I would just go with the street set if you choose to go with kiggly.

I didn't think 9,000 RPMs on a Stroker motor was safe. But maybe it is, I haven't spun mine that high yet. I'm running Supertech Dual valve springs and FP3x cams. The cams are no longer in production but you can pick them up used like I did still. I love these cams. They didn't need degreed, they idle like stock almost and have great top end. They seem to be the perfect combination for the 2.3L as thats what they were designed for specifically.

Bigger cams will definitely help you gain more power. But just dropping a set of cams in isn't going to net you 150hp. How much boost are you running?

I bought mine from Buschur awhile back. They are great dual springs. For only 300, why not give them a try. When ordering them I decided to call to see how far they push them. They said they rev them to 9k all day, and they are also the same springs they use in their race heads. I would buy another set in a heartbeat if I needed some.

I was told by the people who build the motor that I could safely rev this engine to 8500 rpm...

I was having a problem, the car wouldnt go over 23psi so that's where we left it at. They told me it was do to the cams, that I needed bigger ones. Don't know how true that is, but this is why I'm looking to change them. To tell u the truth, I build this engine with some top end parts and I don't see any gain out of anything.. Is sad to say but I spend so much money for noting.. I made the same power with a stock block and a set of je pistons

Get a set of kelford cams and supertech dual valve springs! It is a great combination and you will not have any issues! If you need pricing send me a pm!

Honestly man, the Kiggly beehive springs are the best on the market. If I didn't get a really good deal on my supertech dual springs, I would have Kiggly springs instead. After all they are only $300 dollars.

Dual springs are good and will do the job for a while but they are old technology.

Here's part of an article that I read last week:

"Old school thinking on these matters has usually been to increase spring pressure as much as possible by using the stiffest dual or triple springs that can be installed in the engine. But that kind of thinking is changing, thanks to improvements in spring technology.

Stiffer springs are obviously needed if you are building a high rpm performance engine. But the stiffest springs are not necessarily the best anymore. If you can achieve essentially the same degree of valve control with a lower spring rate, the springs will last longer and be less apt to break. "

The cams don't have anything to do with limiting you to 23 lbs of boost.

I was told that's one of the reasons why, thats the reason I'm asking some one or some knowledge cus I'm lost.. Now the car only making 7-9 psi, I have done boost leaks and anything possible to determine the problem

Which kelford cams are we talking about! 280's or which one? My budget is low, but if I have to spend a lil more and not have to do it all over again, I would get something better

Agreed. But don't off track the thread, the OP is asking which cams/springs to use with his setup. Here is the OP's thread for responses to fixing the boost control issue. ---> http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/404738-help-car-dont-wanna-make-power.html

:dsm:

I agreed on what you sayin, I'm really looking for any type of help I could get.. There is time that I posted a thread looking for help and I nearly get any.. I do apreciated every one for guiding me to the right set up..

Bottom line is that I wanna get to enjoyed my car the best way possible, but I'm just tired of spending money for no reason
