i have a FP 18g and i have been running a ghetto boost controller that will let me hit 25lbs of boost. i dont want to run 25lbs daily, i disconnect the the boost controller and just ran the line from the j pipe to the wg, i cant afford a boost controller atm and would like to run more then 6lbs of boost. anyone have any ideas what could be causeing it? it stops building boost at 25 so i know its not stuck closed.

Yea, how about turning the boost down with boost controller or are you saying its not working? What kind is it?

Well unless you do something to make the arm tighter you stuck with 6 lbs.. Take apart that homemade one and make sure everything is in position. You should have a ball bearing and spring and a tight fit... I built and use my own from 15 to 25 psi..

yeah i have many times i dono why its not working right so im just saving my pennys to get the money to get one. i love the 25 psi but its just not flowing right with out a fmic that i also cant afford yet.

Take apart the boost controller and see if the ball and spring is not sticking or what not.
If you can't fix it, you could always run bleeder tees. Buy a pack of different sizes and use the one that runs the safe amount of boost you want. I have done this for years. I'm gonna be building a MBC soon though.

A manual boost controller isn't rocket science....it's a ball and spring sitting in a brass "T". If it isn't working, figure out why instead of "saving up" for a high-priced-mega-cool boost controller that does nothing more than a $10 Home Depot MBC does.

BTW - If you are running an 18g consistently at 25psi with 660 injectors, you are probably lean as hell and close to the point that a boost controller will be the least of your worries.

Exactly what I was thinking. 25PSI is quite a bit to be running daily. Anyone producing that much boost should have the mechanical talent to fab up a MBC.

well i am tuning with a afc and wideband so i know what my a/fs are and they are within 11.2-11.4 at 25psi... :thumb: i just want to be at like 15psi

i know i just haven't really played with it becasue i enjoy that much boost just want to turn it down tell i can get some more supporting mods to efficiantly run that much boost. im going to be building a new boost controller with in the next day or so.

so i replaced the spring and ball in the boost controller and it still doesn't do anything... i think its time for a new one or something

Lol it is too simple to make a MBC work.. There is a tech write up on here...

yes its hooked up right. i have read the write up and it looks almost like it just different parts the relief hole is there and its just weird :banghead:

wow damn i know that i have only been on this site for a few months but im not a freaking noob i know a lot about cars and how they work its not rocket science.

SO wait a minute. You can tune your car to 25psi, with good afr's, but you cant figure out whats wrong with your MBC?

Im calling BS.

There is a hole that bleeds off the pressure, a screw/bolt that comes in and out to restrict/open the airflow, a BB that actually moves from the spring and the spring is controlled by the screw/bolt and thats what blocks the air and re-directs it out the bleeder. You restrict the air flow so that the WG doesn't open, or open it up to get the WG to open earlier.

If that doesn't help, try hooking it up to an air hose and figure it out from there. It seems like you have it hooked up backwards or its clogged. There arent a whole lot of other reasons it won't work man.

Good luck!:thumb:

Have you checked to make sure your WG isnt stuck shut, or starting to stick?

unless it was put together poorly he could ahve a problem. The first MBC I ever used was so touchy, id screw the screw to where i could shoot 21 psi into the valve and have a postive pressure of 12 psi (open wastegate at 11psi) Id hit roughly 20psi, but it seemed like if when i was done tuning the MBC, one nick, one little turn off of where it was set at would alter it for about 5 psi, i remember setting it one week and i would be good for month, and then the screw would back itself out and id be down to 14-15psi, then id tune it again, and go and hit fuel cut at 25psi on the highway. Same tune, different pressures, for some reason some mbc's just suck. They get stuck, and they just plain old dont work. So, i bought a EBC, best money ive ever spent.
I dont know if the spring was to wimpy but im sure that was it.

Hmmm, Ive never had a problem with mine. I have one on all 3 of my cars too! If he had said he had figured it out and then the problem came back I would agree with you. But since he cant figure out how to open the damn thing up so the WG will open earlier I feel like hes got something setup wrong.

Op, try removing your MBC entirely and run on WG alone. See where that gets you. Thats probably the easiest way to check and make sure your WG is opening correctly.

Other then that, if you still cant figure it out build a new one. Its like $10. I wouldn't spend the money for a EBC unless I was running to the track all the time and also DD'ing the car. IMO just my opinion I suppose, but whats the point?

You adjust boost that often? I know I don't ever mess with mine unless ive changed something on the car.

Well i bought my ebc because of bad experience with the MBC, i would have went the reducer vacuum fitting way, but i wanted something more controllable, and yes, I used the car to get groceries, drive to hang out with friends, go to meets, and mess around at the track, if something goes wrong in the winter, ill be snuggly in my warm car turning the boost, not messing with the nightmare MBC that i bought.

hahahahahah. Point made.

I was playing around with making an electronically controlled two-stage MBC, using the stock FPS and BCS.... not because I needed it though...just because I like to tinker with useless crap. LOL

Hahahaha, must be why you drive a DSM:)

i like how ppl are dogging me for tuning good a/fs and giving me shit for not getting a mbc to work... i have ran just wg pressure and it only hits like 6 psi. i think that the screw is to loose when its backed out.

what would be causing the 6psi from wg pressure? its a fp 18g and it should be like 15psi on wg pressre
