Was surfing around ebay today looking at N/A parts headers and what not when i surf into this Hahn stage two turbo and wastegate for 100 bucks going down in 5 minutes. Well i picked it up. Figured i would get more HP for my moeny this way and my motor is bad and i'm rebuilding it ether way so it's a win win.

Very excited to hear that BOV

Because it's to be followed by a question. I wanted to look around before asking

How many PSI is this turbo good for?

Hey can you post the link to the kit you purchased off ebay? Just post the listing that you won.

Awesome thanks for the info

I was thinking for some reason you could get 10 or 12psi out of that turbo.

Oh well 8 PSi will give me enough kick to jerk around town and have fun.

Okay guys I'm super new at this turbo thing, I tried to make a list of things I need to get for a basic 8psi turbo setup. Let me know if I'm missing anything.

Hahn stage 2 turbo
Turbo manifold
Boost gauge
Oil Pressure gauge
oil temp gauge
3 inch exhaust all the way to the rear
Oil lines
8psi wastegate
FMIC and piping
12:1 FMU
Walbro 255
Greddy type S BOV
Stock FPR
Stock injectors
stock rods
Forged stock comp pistons.

I know I'm missing things. If someone could tell me what else i need to order so i could get it on my list that would be awesome.

Also can someone give me a ballpark on how much HP i'll be pushing with Stock Compression and 8 psi of intercooled boost?
I know the motor is 140HP at the crank stock.

You should go 3" if you can, or at least from the cat back, but 2.5" will do.

A boost gauge would be nice.

Expect anywhere from 180whp-210whp with 8psi on that turbo.

There is more, just keep researching.

Thanks Randy.
One more quick question dealing with intercoolers.
If the wastegate is hooked upto the turbo that means it won't let the air pressure go above 8psi.
I know theres a pressure loss when traveling through everything to the intercooler. So does this mean the turbo will be boosting 8psi but my motor will not see 8psi most intercoolers say they have about a 10% loss i saw on ebay.
I gues 10% or 8psi is very little.

Also should i go with a smaller FMIC because i'm running a smaller turbo? will a larger FMIC take away more then it's helping? meaning the larger the IC the more PSI loss traveling through it? or thats not true?

What size intercooler should i buy for my little 8psi setup.

Thanks again for all the help guys. Trying to learn this stuff as fast as i can been reading stuff on this forum non stop for a couple days now.

The wastegate that is hooked up to the turbo is called an internal wastegate.

Yes there is a pressure drop, from the turbo to the intake manifold after being intercooled, which is why its important to have your boost gauge sourced from the intake manifold. Usually with a FMIC the pressure drop is about 1.5-2psi.

As for the intercooler size, bigger doesn't always mean better. But too small isn't good either. For your application I dont' think it will matter too much since your only going to be boosting 8psi. I would just go with whats cost effective and more importantly allows for a shorter route for the intercooler piping.

You should definetly read the tech article on building a turbo setup for our cars by GSGOINGFAST. It will tell you every little thing you need to have.

That intercooler looks good. I would suggest getting a bigger core though. You said your motor is bad and you're going to rebuild, and once you do that you will want to turn the boost up and you'll want a bigger core.

One last question is there any way to change that internal wastegate to make oh 10psi so my engine is seeing a true 8psi?

To answer your question, theres no need to mod the wastegate, if your wastegate source is comming from the intake plenum then no matter how much pressure loss you have from the air traveling from the turbo and through the intercooler, your wastegate will not open until 8psi is acheived in the intake plenum. Basically your wastegate will open whenever 8psi is acheived at where your wastegate source is hooked up.

As far as a FMIC, if your planning on upgrading go ahead and slap on a FMIC and some 2.5 inch piping, planning on satying with 8 PSI for a while, i think youll be fine with a GS-T SMIC or a HRC SMIC. Im running a 24x12x2.75 FMIC on only 7psi, she still spools up close to the norm for the turbo im running even with the lower psi and the FMIC, but i plan on getting a descent tune and running between 15-18psi. Its alot of personal preference, and what your plans are for the future.

Also i would suggest a EGT gauge and a wideband, dump the oil temp gauge kinda useless IMOP. Your list looks pretty good beside some replacement gaskets. You will also need to tap your oil pan as well as get some plumbing for your oil feed line and OP gauge. Need some fuel lines to feed the FPR. You will need some vac line, Plastic vac line fittings, silicone couplers and t-bolt clamps. A Turbo Timer may come in handy(not necessary but convenient). Almost forgot you should get a Fuel Pressure gauge for the engine bay. Other than the previously mentioned things i cant think of anything else.

Quick Question though, just curious as to why you are going with forged internals with a OEM compression? might as well drop the compression so you can boost more down the road, even though the internals will be forged, its gonna be harder to tune a car with a higher compression and forced induction. Lowering the compression give you a lil more room for error, and allows for more boost and upgrades down the road when your ready.

Thanks everyone for your help.
I feel i'm speeding off in the right direction now. My turbo gets here this weekend.

Oh also i looked and i can't find the tech article by GSGOINGFAST. I must be blind or something.
Can someone link it for me?

White 97rs,
Reason i'm not changing comp is i'm not planning on boosting any higher then 8psi maybe 10 psi max.
So i figured i would leave the car at stock comp.

If i can get 200WHP i'll be very happy.

Oooo one more thing anyone have a digital copy of the Hahn stage two turbo kit install instructions? I've been trying to find them online but i'm at a loss or someone who could photo copy them i'll pay them for paper and postage.
Thanks.

Turbo install is really simple and straight forward. You should be able to tackle it with pure common sence. Be sure your oil line fittings that you screw into the block are as tight as you can get them, the most common error I've seen while turboing 420a, is that those aren't tight, and oil will seep out of them. Again, as tight as you can get them.

Thanks for everything guys.
I own you all a 12 pack :)

Payday is tomorrow so i'm ordering my manifold.
I found a couple on ebay.
Do turbo manifolds run a pretty standard size? or there all a little different?

You guys will be pretty sick of me by the time this turbo is built. Ha-Ha

Is the Hahn stage 2 a T3 turbo flange?

Thanks again.

Thanks DSMcrazy,
I'll shoot him a PM and see if he can hook me up with a Manifold for my turbo.

Just to let you know, if your going to go with an intercooler about the size of the one you posted in the link, someone is selling one from a star kit on 2gnt.com for $110 shipped, it already has the bracket to mount it and you might be able to find piping for it too so you dont have to fab it all up yourself.

You guys are all truely awesome.
Pulling my motor saturday to replace internals.

while its out. please change your timing belt and tensioner and even the water and oil pumps. Might save you a lot of trouble in the future.

couple other things to think about while motor is out. Headgasket, arp headstuds, valve seals.

good luck.
