Well guys, do i have a story for you.. You all know i have a 97 GST, well i don't drive her in the winter here in the pittsburgh area. Because we all know the horrible stories of our weather..

I had a F150. PERFECTLY running.. a 1994, kinda ugly but well it ran fine. I sold it to my dad for 1500$ just so i could pick up this 95 Eagle Talon TSI AWD with a 6 bolt swap done by the previous owner before this guy.. It needed a clutch/flywheel/TOB/Pivot/Fork.. So i replaced all that.

Then the clutch wouldn't engage, so we had to figure out a way to adjust the pedal.. Thanks to the forums i figured it out and the clutch engaged once again! Well; Then the Throttle got stuck open. The gas pedal needed adjusted at the Thottle body and we fixed that.

I FINALLY got to take her on the road, and when i came back.. ROD KNOCK. i was so beyond pissed. Its at that stage where at the top of its RPM it rattles. at like 2.5 you can hear it the most..

Anways; i got screwed out of this damn car.. I can replace the engine with another one for 350 bucks. but winter just hit pittsburgh today with a shit load of snow and i don't have the garage spot anymore to work on my car..

MY QUESTION is this.. and i know, I'm not a noob. I'm suppose to clean the whole motor out and get it checked out, along with a machinist fix my crank and blah blah blah.. But I'm running out of options here. So it's Ether..

A. Drop the Pan, check the crank out and throw new bearings in..
--- HOW EFFECTIVE IS THIS? Has anyone ever dropped new bearings in and fixed the problem? I DONT CARE if you know this is the wrong way, hell i know its the wrong way, i just wanna know if anyone has made it 1000s of miles on just new bearings alone.. WHERES THE FACTS!??!
B. Drop a new Motor in (i have another 6 bolt motor lined up for 375$+ my old one..)
C. Sell the Car for 2300$ and throw thick ass oil in and screw over the next kid just like i got screwed over

is that really one of your choices?:banghead:

and i would drop the 6 bolt in for 375, if you know its good.

Drop in the $375 short block.... But you may want to check that one out before you drop it in and it knocks......

Spend the extra money and pick up the other engine as long as it has a warranty and you're just asking to waste money by throwing a set of bearings in without cleaning out all the bearing particles.

Screwing someone else over is a pretty sad way of going about things if you ask me.

My theory on these kind of things is "Do it right, or don't do it at all" But then again, I'm willing to spend a bit more time and money than the average DSMer.

I say pick up the new short block, toss it in, and tear down the knocking one and start a slow build.

Its not just a short block. its a full long block haha. but I'm not guaranteed nothing.. Supposibly it has arp head studs and new gasket sets and timing and everything but my 6 bolt in it now was supposedly done right as well.

Me putting 60$ bearings in this car is just as much of wasting money as me putting a 375$ motor in it.. Could be as be of a waste ... i'm not guaranteed anything..

Yeah its a sad way but i have no other choice. and don't come out making me look like a bad guy here. i know all of this is the whole thing to do. but you all have to understand I'm in the predicament that i use to frown upon others doing just like you all are doing to me. haha. its just the luck of the dice. and i got shafted.

Well your crank could have took a beating as well. I would get the crank polished and arp rod bolts put in. If you don't sell it, you have to take the motor out anyways. It would be better to know what the motor has.

Rip your motor out drive your 97 till your get the motor rebuilt! Send the motor to the machine shop get everything cleaned. Get sum arp rod bolts and re size the 6 bolts rods. Dont know how much money you have to play with. I dont like buying other peoples used motors they say are good!

Thats not an option. My 97 is uninspected till summer. And I'm not risking the body of that car in this crap weather just for a talon i don't care enough about hahah.

Well the motor the guy isn't selling anymore so now I'm SOL..

Drop the pan and check the condition of bearings and the journals. If's it's not bad you might be able to get away with just bearings for a little while. It's 50/50 though just replacing the bearings and is most defiantly not the right way. I tried to get away with it and failed my crank ended up being out of round.

Yeah believe me, I'm real against this way but i bought this car with a clutch failure and i couldn't hear the knock.. as soon as i got the trans to engage and took it of ra ride, the motor starts knocking i had a mile on it and turned the car off..

sounds like you need to pop out what you have and just go thu it

Have the crank checked, polished or ground as needed, have the rods checked

Get the cheap rebuild kit of rings/bearings/gaskets, make a call on the timing belt.

You should be about $375 but have a decent beater engine.
