Water Temp Gauge

Alrighty, My water temp gauge is going bad, so I bought a sunpro one for a quick fix. However, there's always a problem. When I was installing it, the gauge mysteriously split at one spot, leaving the sensor and wire on one half, and then the rest of the wire and the gauge on the other. Is it possible to solder these back together and still have a functioning gauge?

So the wire is the only thing that broke?

If so, someone recently mentioned that water temp sensors aren't as persnickety about resistance changes as other temperature sensors which are based on thermocouples. You could solder it and test it out in distilled ice water (should read 0*C or 32*F) and then in boiling distilled water (100*C or 212*F) assuming you're at sea level - and Pittsburgh is like 400ft above sea level or something - freezing/boiling temperatures of water will be lower at higher elevations. If it reads both of these correctly, you might be in luck.

I'd recommend doing a search, though. There might be a way to fix it that won't work if you try to solder it first.

I have soldered temp. sensor wire's before for customers that have broken. Didn't affect how the gauge worked. It still complete's the circuit so it will work as usual.
