Wanting More N/T Power [Merged 9-18-09]

AFX is more for an all motor car mod. MSnS is for the turbo upgrade down the road, or extremely serious tuning. AFX is like auto-pilot tuning, not to mention Bullet said his AFX was really close to the numbers of his professional Tune.

yea i have the plugs, wires, a 4-2-1 header, full back exhaust, when i bought the car it didn't have a cat on it, and only had a stock muffler, so i got the took off and put exhaust, would it be wise to go ahead and put a cat back on it, because i have heard from many people that you need a cat even if its a hi flow cat for the back pressure. and also were is a good place to find a good intake manifold for my 2.0? any help would be awesome.

i believe Venom makes them for the non turbo, also i ran both a test pipe and a high flow cat on my old 92 talon n/t and i didnt have any issues other then I felt more power with the test pipe

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to bash what you're doing or where you want to go with your car.

I've had several cars that I modified heavy N/A. (s13, lt-1 z28 etc..) as well as helping a ton of other people do the same (lots of Hondas, etc..)

I was never happy with any 4cyl I had even after dropping a grand+ on mods. Now the bolt-ons seemed to have GOOD affect on my lt-1 (hooker lt's + true duals + intake DEFINTELY made a BIG difference). But on the rest it didn't seem like they really helped make a huge difference. This could be due to motor size, quality of the aftermarket parts or if the factory parts being replaced were more restrictive then the others etc..

What I'm trying to say is you are looking at replacing some decent costing parts (ie. SMIM for starters) and the gains might not be as impressive as you're hoping for.

No matter what N/A mods you make to that 4g n/t sitting there, a factory turbo kit (14b) would make more power then after all your NA mods and be cheaper along the way. Just my 2cents!

Goodluck though in whatever route you take :thumb:

o i am totally looking to do turbo, i use to have a 95 gs that i made turbo and it was a beast, i am just really low on funds right at this point and looking to just do what i can until i do go turbo, and also when i do end up putting a turbo kit on my 4g63, were do i run the oil lines from?

*Full 2.5' exhaust
*Intake Manifold
*Cold Air Intake
*Spark Plug Wires
*4-2-1 Headers
*Nitrous :sneaky: (once you feel like you've done all you can)

^^This is the best start, although I wouldn't recommend Nitrous to anyone who's not experienced.

Try reading some of these posts on this thread, maybe it'll give you some inspiration... or it'll just convince you to just buy a turbo model since getting sufficient power out of a N/T requires engine building experience.

If your on a budget I would forget about buying an aftermarket intake manifold, they're pretty expensive. I would say just port 'n polish the stock one but then again it might not make a difference when your air intake flow is being monitored and controlled by a stock MAF sensor.

ok im trying to figure out ### way to go one my 95 eclipse rs i either want just a bolt ons for power or am i about to turbo it for around 3k i want it to be fast and fun and yes i have looked for turbo modles but i cant find any when i have the money and i had wanted to bore it 40 over and turbo it but idk if i should wait or just go for it

........Hey guys i have a 94 eagle talon DL. I need to know what other motors i can use to swap over, i have the 1.8 and was woundering what other motors would swap over into the car with out a lot of time and mone, i was looking at a few JDM motors and wanted to get some ideas, and maybe some facts....the list is as follows:4g93,4G62/G62B, and 4G64
Now the 1.8 that i ahve is rated at 93hp, and these motors are rated an lilltle higher from 115 to 147hp.
will any of these motors work with the transmission i have, and that is the KMF22 5 speed, and one have any ideas?

too all the guys out there with the 1.8 under the hood, listen up, i may be able too help, now theres not much in the way of Mod's for our little SHOC's but you can get a little more out of your ride with out spending a lit of money.
One this is get rid of the stock air box, that things sucks, this is cheezy, but it does work, go to auto zone or some rag tag auto parts store, get the cheep short ram intake kit they have and use that, now you will have too figger out how too use your MAF, ive got mine clamped in so its stable, next improve your exhaust, now what Ive done (and id don't recommend this) is i gutted my cat. Now where i am there's not much in the way of emissions laws here, what i would recommend is, getting your hands on a free flow cat and exhaust muffler. Then advance your timing by about 2 degrees. Its not impressive numbers by no means but you will see a different s. If you wnanna hook your car up and spand a little cash you can get a new intake from slow boy, you can pic it up for around 500 smacks.
Another thig is, you can do anything as long as you know what you are doing or atleast have some one too help you, now guys with the 1.8's dont worry about the flack you will catch from the guys who have the 4G63T's under the hood, while we may not possesses as much power(and we dont) still doesn't mean that its any less of a DSM, its all about being your self and using your imagination and doing something different, after all thats why many of us get into imports, is too in fact do something different.
I am willing to help any one out, who needs some help, how ever i dont know everything! but i do own two 1.8 model DSM's so ive picked up a lot on the car, any ways, holla at me if needed

More than twenty off-topic and inflammatory posts were deleted from this thread. Please stay on topic -- this thread is not for discussing which is better, a 420A or a 4G63. Let my post here serve as a warning; anyone who engages in such an argument again will receive an infraction.

To all the 2.0L turbo guys who choose to participate in this thread, just answer the OP's question. Don't start a "which car is better" debate. This thread is a fragment from a previous thread where such an argument occurred.

Okay i've been trying to figure this out for a week now! i posted a thread last night about it and NO HELP.... I dont want to go turbo i just want a 250hp to 300hp daily driver.. is this possible and where do i start to do this? thank you for any info!!!:thumb:

So where should i start to build all motor and then eventually go turbo? what compression pistons should i use? if i put 8.8:1 in the block can i drive all motor with those or are they just for turbo?

Low compression pistons (i.e. 8.8:1) are primarily for turbocharged applications. You'll probably want something in the neighborhood of 10.5:1 for high compression a daily driver.

As for your goal, is 250whp possible? No... Mark Bullett owns the fastest all motor 2GNT, and he's at about 212whp. You can do everything he did, but the sacrifices you'll have to make probably aren't practical for a daily driver.

My post was mis-understood, I'm sorry. I simply stated that his power goals weren't possible without the use of forced induction. I made no reference to him selling his car, nor any reference as to not turbo his N/T. I own a 420A and a 4g63, both of which I like alot, I wasn't giving a biased opinion, just stating that an "all motor" 2.0L engine isn't going to produce that kind of power. Sorry to the OP, I tried to offer info, meant no offense.
