More power!

Yeah how much power do you get from the TB and port of the IM. I'd really hate to waste 200-250 bucks for like 5-10 hp.

Sorry but this just makes me "LOL" because thats basically what working on a NA is. 200-250 for that much hp is actually a really good gain for a NA hp to $$ money wise. If you think about it exhausts are around 150-1000 and only net you a good 1-3 hp.

But for cost efficient, like I said, UDP, or poly mounts, although the poly mounts do really net you HP.. maybe give ya some free hp (using power to move the car not the engine), you will notice a better throttle response.

The first thing you guys need to understand is that our cars were built farily well flowing from the factory. When our engine first came out, not too many NA engines could compete with the HP and TQ ratings. The best Honda had to offer was the B18(non v-tec) putting down 118 HP at the wheels. For our engine to put down 132hp at the wheels was amazing. That being said, The most HP gain you will ever see from adding 1 aftermarket component, will be right around 5 hp. And that's pushing it. With adding a full exhaust you'll be lucky to see an 8HP gain. POOF just went 400 bucks! With our engine, if you want to see SIGNIFICANT gains, you need to go the route of Turbo or Nitrous. Unless you have the money to burn for a complete NA build with High-compression pistons and a 200 shot of Nitrous to boot. Even then, you won't see much over 200HP at the wheels.(w/o nitrous) By doing a 55mm TB and a port match, you WILL only get MAYBE 5 HP. Not to discourage anyone but that's just the way it is. Hence the magnificent Turbo build. Save another 2 times the money you already have saved up and BELIEVE me when I say this: It will ALL be worth it. Even with just 5lbs of boost, it was the best feeling of accomplshment and exhiliration I've ever had. And I've driven a 82 Special Edition Corvette with well over 400 HP worth of aftermarket work. It was cool, don't get me wrong, but I didn't build that engine. THAT'S where the money is. :hellyeah:
Cost Effcient would definitely be turbo. You can do it for a little over 1200 bucks(exhaust included) and you'll see an average gain of around 80HP with 8lbs of boost. That's about 10 HP for every 150 dollars spent. Not too shabby. Yes, a 50shot might be a little cheaper, but it can do WAY more damage to an engine, plus there's that nasty chance of fire under the hood. Average Nitrous kit costs 500 dollars, plus a Pro install isn't cheap either.
Sorry I found 2 more pennys in my couch.ROFL

LD25Delta9 brings up a great points that everyone should take note of. Not sure how many times i've told people who came to me for advice "MAKE A PLAN FIRST A REALISTIC ONE!!!" The top 420a NA 2g eclipse/talon, NO turbo, No Nitrous, No Supercharger, is bullet, and his care is only making 212whp. Thats an accomplishment and we all respect that, but when thinking in terms of HP, it isn't that much number wise when compared to our turbo brethren.

Basically what I'm trying to say is to save you a lot of time, frustration, and money. Make realistic goals. Do you want A) a Drag car B) A daily driver C) A weekend warrior.

From their choose turbo or NA. Turbo you will see bigger numbers, and overall have the potential of a faster car. Lot of people do decide to go turbo, which is fine, but its also a different upgrading path for the most part.

Or, you could go NA. You wont see as big of numbers, but there are some of us who are committed to the NA and want to see what it can do. Your car wont be running 10's, but you can have a really good reliable car, that can scoot.

2gnt had a great link somewhere (wish i could find it) that basically explained the paths better than i could.

But what i'm trying to say, get a good plan, so you dont waste 200 on a cai, only to remove it going turbo later. Don't street port your engine to NA standards, only to turn around and want to get it ported to turbo standards a few months down the road.

I think this is what you were refering to;

Oh yeah, we were 130whp crank which came out to around 100whp.

Oh yeah, and MSnS or AFX ECU (I have done personal dyno sheet comparisons and the AFX ECU actually fairs quite well. Not as good but pretty darn good for a bolt-on "self-adjusting" unit) are really good places to start on the path. Our stock ecu's will fight you from here to kingdom come.

Aw crap, I didn't want to post up too much because most of this info is out there with a search. But apparently, I can't keep my trap shut

Thats where it is well 2GNT.com - Stage_1 to be more specific at the "Now it's decision time for you." Thanks again bullet, i need to familiarize myself way more with 2gnt, i dont go there nearly enough

Lol, I go there (and here) way too much :ohdamn:. I should have been downstairs today working on the turbo.....but here I am :coy:

One thing that was mentioned and I should reiterate, is that the AFX ECU would be a bad choice for turbo. You would run a bit on the edge with the timing maps. It seems the OP started off NA searching and ended up turbo searching. That threw me off a little.
