Go to ebay type in 420a 55mm throttle body and it will be the guy with 100% feedback. Make sure you port your intake manifold to match the bigger tb. Also after you port it spend forever making sure there are no metal shavings left over. If you don't feel confident in porting it yourself take it to your local machine shop and they will do it for no more than $100.

55mm throttle body: $150

Porting intake manifold: $100 +/-

Money left over: $150

Go pick your self up some megan headers.

i agree with the porting of the TB, but u can get your IM ported from CI for like $20 or so. After that I'd get a UDP or headers, you should just bite the bullet and get both imo :thumb:

Megasquirt II.

While tuning is always an option, its not the simple plug n play like most bolt ons, (like cai/ exhaust etc) Bottom line is MS is obviously a good option, but i wouldn't recommend it if you are on the forums asking for what to get for more power. In other words, MS requires a lot of homework doing and knowledge of tuning. Personally for tuning i would get the AFX ECU, unless you are knowledgeable on tuning.
In other words tuning is always a good thing, but i wouldn't worry about it until you get your engine to a place where it will really benefit from it. That way will you not only see a great improvement, but you will also save yourself a lot of headache if you decide project building isn't for you.

Dude With That Money.... Start Building A turbo Kit!!! :D

that's another good option, but only if you plan on going turbo (obviously). Dont waste your money on headers, and CAI's and anything that will need replacing if you plan on turbocharging in the future.

Yeah because I just got a job and im planning on saving up for a t3/t4 kit and i dont want to waste money on headers.

thats why I was trying to think of something to do in the mean time that would also benefit the turbo.

So you may be wondering "why dont you save the $300"

because im not a good saver:D and i want some more power and im always looking for new stuff to do to my car. it never ends:hellyeah:

t-body, port the intake manifold, and for all u guys that said "headers" this is a inline 4 we are talking about........ it uses a "header".

ROFL That's awesome!
As much as I agree with Fotown on all the other issues, I reccomend getting MS as soon as possible. It's relatively inexpensive when comparing attributes and price with that of the AFX unit. Not to mention that the AFX unit has NO tuning capabilities. It's basically just a reflashed stock ECU. And the amount of howmework needed isn't that great when doing really mild tunes. Chances are there is a msq. file already on the forums that's be perfect for his setup. Forego the MPx TB and source a jeep TB to mod instead. You'll do some learning and get the same reults for cheaper. Plus the Jeep TB makes a super sweet whistling sound when you hit the gas.LOL

I agree.

There is homework for everything you add. It's no harder then adding a turbo kit (there is a wiring guide/build guide and MSQ base maps to get your car started not including the neon.org, 2gnt, msextra forums) The info is there.

I mentioned it because most usually upgrade to something like a turbo or cams. (like the OP wants to) If I had a chance to do it all over again I would have bought MS, done my home work, and build my map around the bolt ONs I've added. A AFX ECU isn't going to control cams, nitrous, logging of all inputs including the crank and cam sensor, boost control, boost, e85, adjustable idle, ect. the way MS can for the price. (One of the biggest advantages is closed loop idle that will let you set your idle target for wild cams. (i.e: A better idle for C3's)) Not to mention that some neon users are using a SAFC with the AFX unit to fine tune idle with wild cams. As psycho mentioned, our ECU's weren't built for performance and is indeed a limiting factor. Remember that part of the power factor relies on a good fuel ratio and spark degree. Not to say that it will add gobs of power but it's a good investment for making the most of what you have. (bolt on wise)

I think its full consensus that ms>afx, but i figured that afx was more up his ally if he's asking for help on what to buy next:p. Either way, afx is a terrible option if he wants to go turbo. My input was put up before i found out that he wants turbo and everything.

Also i should mention I've never used ms, but herd a lot about it, and from how it sounds, its amazing, but there is a learning curve.

Which btw OP, if you want turbo than yes get a jeep or some other type of 60mm TB, and not a 55mm.

So think we can all basically agree for a $400 budget, for where you are at, get either MS or Jeep tb (60mm) with your IM ported to match and a UDP. Although you may want to save the udp for when you have cams to put in as well, to save ya some work. If thats the case, I am in deep love with polyurethane motor mounts, cheap and effective.

+1 90%.... I might go with a UDP a little eariler before cams. If the OP gets the TB (wichever he decides to go with) along with the port work, it'll make really good use of the UDP. It's what I did before going turbo and I noticed a MAJOR difference. It doesn't add any horsepower but it does utilize the horsepower you do have, faster. It's been ahwile since I've had to answer this so don't quote me but there is an equation that determines the weight of 1lb of mass rotating at X RPM. It's something along the lines of at 5000rpm, 1lb of mass equals 10lbs while rotating. If one of the Wisemen can chime in with the correct equation that'd be great. That being said, by eliminating almost 7lbs off of the crank at X RPM, there is a HUGE difference in how quickly the enigne itself can accelerate. With our engine being a litlle different design than the 4g63, we don't have as big of a worry about crank-walk so long as you DO YOUR MAINTENECE......and don't buy a knock-off UDP because they usually aren't balanced properly. That is an AFX product (AFX UDP) worth spending your money on. :D
There, I spent my last 2 cents...I'm now broke!LOL

I live like a block away from AMS Performance:hellyeah:, do you think they could port the intake manifold out?

oh and one more thing, what is the exact purpose of the poly motor mounts?

when i tried to buy the afx udp, the guy told me the didnt have any made and didnt know when they would (its the udp i wanted) so i went with a Unorthodox Racing its pricier, but a good udp. You can find them on ebay normally for a lot cheaper, just make sure you arnt buying a knockoff.

Porting a IM is easy, porting to match that is, i am sure they will be able to do it

Also polyurethane mounts are better more reinforced motor mounts. Basically when you accelerate, your engine will rock back, first before pulling the car forward. Anyways, by using poly's there is much much much less engine rock back, which will mean that all that power is transfered to your wheels, well crank (instead of wasting power rocking your engine back, if that makes sense). Ontop of that, it will have your car make make an awesome vibration from just being at idle, that alone i love and think it makes it worth it.

Hopefully that was clear enough for ya to understand, my minds scattered, trying to post real quick before going to party for new years, happy new year btw

Just out of curiosity how much of a performance gain should some one expect if they were to get the 55mm TB and a ported IM?

More than you can afford pal... FERRARI!

haha jk I have both and I didn't notice a huge difference but maybe it's just me.

LOL nice qoute,

I was just wondering because im at the same exact place as him, I've got a few hundred bucks and im not sure what to upgrade next. I really don't plan on going turbo.

You would be lucky to get that, IMO some crane cams would help you out more than anything.

well in that case, what would be the most cost efficient upgrade in regards to aside from exhaust and intake
