I think I'm convinced........If you could take a couple a pictures i'd appreciate it.........Have you checked out www.dsmtalk.com they have some good ideas and help for the 1.8 I only saw a little but from what I like what I saw including putting Turbo on the 1.8.........If you have'nt checked it out check it out.........anybody else want to add anything in here I'd really appreciate it, I can use all the advice and help I can get.

:dsm:

i wouldn't turbo ur 1.8, now that is plain retarded. You can pick up a ENTIRE CAR w/ a turbo for the money it would cost. and i wouldn't sell the 1.8 when u do get a turbo, mine breaks all the time(broken for the last 5 months), and right about now i would PIMP the sh!t outa a geo metro, i hate not having my car. more power u get, less reliability.

try to find a laser turbo if you want to save money, but remember if a car is
cheap and reliable it is not fast
fast and cheap it is not reliable
reliable and fast it is not cheap

Yeah I know that it does'nt seem practical to Turbo a 1.8 and I probablly won't............but on dsmtalk.com somebody did it to the exact same car as mine with minor mods using a 84-87 dodge colt turbo or a Mitsubishi mirage turbo inline 4...........and obviously it won't be pulling anything close to a 12 sec 1/4 mile but if I were to do this it would'nt be to take to the track it would be just a littl bit more power for on the streets........also you said that your 4g63 turbo is always being fixed and in the article about the 4g37 that is 1 of his points for slapping turbo on the 1.8 because of the reliabiltiy..........don't quote me on any of this because I did'nt have time to read the article all the way through...........also I have a question regarding my brakes (90 Eclipse FWD) I just put 16" stock rims on it to replace the 14" rims I had on it, anyways now my brakes have started to squeak when they are not being applied and when they are applied it goes on and off? I visually looked at the outside pads with a flashlight and they seemed to have enough pad left can anyone help me? I think I will post this part as a new post also.........Thank You in advance.........

"I just put 16" stock rims on it to replace the 14" rims I had on it, anyways now my brakes have started to squeak when they are not being applied and when they are applied it goes on and off"

odd.. mine did the exact same thing... but i thought it was 'cause i had to hit the front passenger wheel with a sledge hammer to get it off :p

You got it...........My brakes and the shaking is gone.........I brought it back to the place that put them on for me the next day and found out that when they put one of the front wheels on they torqued one of the lug nuts down to far first and the center cap was tight as it was so consequently the wheel was on a hair off center........NO I won't be going back their again..........and I would have noticed my self and fixed it but it was dark when it was done and I had to work the next day........also they did have to use a sledge hammer to get it off..................is that bad?:D

:dsm:

............And...........it was the front passenger wheel ironically............can you give me more details regarding your incident.............Thanks

:dsm:

LOL... weiiird
when i bought my car, it came with 14" steel rims with no hub caps.. so those had to go.. bought some stock "premium" 93 laser wheels (16" + gold) online for cheap, and when they arived, i decided to put them on.. it was already dark by the time i started, but that's what a flashlight is for, right? hehe
so anyway.. replaced driver's side rear fine.. moved to passenger rear.. that one was rusted on just a bit, but a stiff kick got it off.. moved to front passenger, and i couldn't get it off for the life of me.. no matter how hard i kicked.. i started to wonder if i was missing something.. maybe the front had some strange trick to them? so i put a couple of nuts back on the lugs, set the car down, and tried the driver's side front tire.. came off fine.. so i knew that the front passenger must just be rusted on.. so i started tapping it with a sledge hammer.. but it just would NOT come off.. even with WD-40 all over it.. it just wouldn't come off.. so finally i started really hitting the wheel and it finally broke loose...
*shrug*
that's pretty strange that it happened to both of us :p

Hey guys I'm new here on the forum. I just bought a 1994 Eagle Talon ES about a month ago. Great car pretty quick and decent suspension. But I would like to squeeze some more power out of the engine because the stock 135 hp just doesnt cut it. Does anybody have any tips or advice.

intake, header, exhaust (2.5" mandrel bent), new plug wires and plugs to keep it firing well. after all that a little 50shot would do wonders for it for not much cash.

Hey Mavisky I don't know if I should go up to 2.5 inches its a non turbo I would loose all of my back pressure if I went that big wouldn't I? Pacesetter headers are definately the cheapest are they worth it or are they junk?

trust me you'll be fine. the stock exhaust is only like 2" so its not like you're going to 3", you might lose a little on the low end, but you'll make more on the top end and the loss won't be that noticeable. you'll also have a hell of a time finding an exhaust under 2 1/2" anyways. my pacesetter headers weren't the greatest, but they ran good on my car for a couple of years and then sold them to another member in wisconsin where he ran them for another 2. i used it as a daily all winter long and they worked alright.

Hey Mavisky

Yah ok I guess I'll try a 2 and a half like you said but i live in ALberta Canada and the Catalytic convereter is not a legal requirement so I wanted to do a strait pipe. And cap it of with a magnaflow performance muffler a wide open one (I want something thats sounds nice and deep not ricy any other sugestions on a muffler). And one more quick question do you know whether my car will have 1 O2 sensor or 2. I heard that my car may have only the one in the exhaust manifold. But I also heard that it may have a second O2 behind the catalytic convereter.

1. no matter what you do it won't sound deep unless it's turbo'ed. hell at higher rpms even mine doesn't sound that "deep"

2.a test pipe will only make it louder, so make sure you like the sound.

3. you only have one oxygen sensor. our cars run off of obd1 not obd2 like the 2nd generation cars did so a test pipe wil have no effect whatsoever to the check engine light like on a 2nd generation car.

Thanks alot for your info so far.

So far Ive swaped out the spark plugs and wires for some Bosch Platinium and some Accel 8mm wires. Next I'm saving up for the lcal muffler shop to bend me up my exhaust pipe. After that I was thinking about either headers or intake. Speaking of intakes our Mass Airflow Censor is right in the cone. And I havent seen any cold air kits for a Talon but Ive seen a Short Ram goin for about $400. Is there anyway to get a good air intake a little cheaper?

i'd go with the short ram, it'll work pretty good for now.

also i'd order an exhaust as the muffler shops won't be mandrel bent and in order for them to get it around the rear axle it will be just as bent and creased as the stock exhaust. the exhaust is really only as big as its smallest area, and that's the biggest problem with the stocker is that it kinks down pretty small in the rear.

Adding a GM MAF and a MAF translator is another option. I've been running that setup, and it was probably one of the best mods that I've done so far. I recommend purchasing a logger so that you'll be able to tune the translator properly.

hey just thought i would tell u that pacesetter sucks and thats why they are so cheap. dc makes a header and i think greddy does too. those are pretty nice, but a short ram air intake for 400 youd be getting stroked on that deal. by a cheap one on ebay, it will do the same, but good luck :thumb:

Why make fun out of a cheaper header, then recommend a cheap intake? Yeah both are not as good of quality as the other more expensive ones, but they have their benefits if you are on a tight budget. Injen has a pretty good intake for the price, and if you get the translator like Thunderskull recommended, you can extend the piping into the fender well for a true cold air intake. :thumb: The gains from this alone will make up for the $400 that you were looking at for the expensive intake. I haven't had any problems with my pacesetter yet, but I am looking to go with the 4-1 design instead in the near future.

PM me if you are looking for a good deal on a ceramic coated pacesetter header that was installed in March.

everyone rides this "pacesetter is crap" theory and it really makes me wonder if any of them have ever had their products. my 2.5" catback is still mostly pacesetter piping and it still holding together just fine and i've had it since at least '99. it's not like the $400 one is going to make another 10hp, i bet you'd be lucky for it to make 2 more hp, and that's not worth the other $250 or so it costs.

From what I've "heard" (which is evidently the problem) Pacesetter used to make very poor quality products. From folks I know that have purchased from them recently, their quality has improved. Though I'm fairly happy with the punishment header that I have right now.

ebay will be your best bet

i seen intakes for the 1g for about 30 bucks looks good and performs well
also check out obx headers i just got them installed last week.i really can feel the difference and it came with everything
just check out ebay

how bout u check out the tunning guide that will be a good blueprint to start your mods :thumb:

Hey Guys

But still on the subjects of intakes Short Ram Or Cold Air. Our MAF is in the stock kone at the end of the rubber hose if you get a a short ram for example what would you do with that MAF. Would you somehow put into the air filter cone of the air filter of the new kit or what???

PS: I was checking out ebay and I got this when I typed in talon intake. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7925201316&category=33557
This claims you get 15hp just by plugging in a 6$ chip. This is most liikely BS right

the cold air intakes aren't anything more than a nice mandrel bent pipe that will replace your rubber one right now and will have rubber connectors at each end. one to connect to your throttle body and another at your mass air sensor.

those chips are bs usually.

Yes, it is complete bs. The aftermarket intake kits for our vehicle are able to accomodate the stock MASS. Even the ebay ones will accomodate the stock mass you just need to keep the old aircan.
