VSS Lead: Yellow/White Driver's Side of Console. You dont need to pull the dash to get to it. GOD knows I'm probably going to play some part in the install anyway. =)

Hi guys,

I am trying to install a Pioneer AVIC D2 navigation unit on my Mits Eclipse 99 GS and it requires connection to the Vehicle Speed sensor wire. Has anyone installed this unit on their car or just know where I could find that wire - is it under the dashboard somewhere?

Also it wants me to connect to the parking brake and reverse signal light. I am trying to find out where they are as well, is there some manual I could use for that?

Thanks,

Svetlin

Thanks,

Would it be too much if I ask whether you guys know where the reverse signal light is, is it in the same region or I have to go somewhere else in the car?

After spending an hour and a half removing side panels, center console and what not, and probably 20-25 screws around all the dashboard I finally managed to take out my stock stereo (CD player + tape) from my Eclipse 99 GS. I bought a Pioneer AVIC D2 and I am trying to hook it up but I don't wanna mess up so I am trying to figure out some things:

1. On my stock stereo there is no black wire not was there any wire connected to the chassis which I expected as a ground. I have 2 ground wires coming with the D2, one is black and one is because I need to ground it to make the navigation work while driving. I was wondering whether I should attach them to a metal part of the chassis or somewhere else to ground them?

2. I have been looking all day for a proper wiring colors diagram for the stock stereo but I could not find one. Here is what I see but I am not sure which is for what:

Wires:

Red
Red-yellow
Red-gray

Blue fat wire
Blue-yellow
Blue-gray

White-red
White-blue

Black-blue
Black-red

White-black
White-green

Does anyone knows a place where I can get info about these wires, which are for speakers, which are for ACC, battery, ground etc.

Last question is connected with "harness adapter", while reading the threads in the forum about the stereo installations everyone recommends a harness adapter so I do not mess up the wiring. Where could I find one and how would that help me? Does it mean that I won't need to cut any wires for the current wiring harness and just attach the new one to it or something else?

I will greatly appreciate your help.

Thank you,

Svetlin

My car had the factory amp, but I believe you can to.

I went to the nearest car audio store, and just said that my Eclipse has a bunch of weird colored wires and I have no idea what wires go where. They said I needed the cheater plug. I said give it to me. It was 15 dollars and it plugged into the factory plug and plugged into my radio. That made installation a breeze. About the nav stuff sorry can't help you there. :coy:

yea buy the $12 dollar harness. you will still have to hook the ground wires somewhere though since we dont have grounds in our harness. just hook the grounds to a ring terminal and put it under one of the mounting screws

Hi,

I went to Autozone, they do not have the adapter but they will order it for me. So basically I plug that thingy in the current harness and connect its wires to the wires of the Pioneer, that's gonna be damn sweet if it works out. By the way, I have 2 wires I need to ground - one is the ground and the other is for the parking brake which I need to do to bypass that navigation unit - are those of these going to be connected to the chassis or I could connect the brake one to the black one and just ground that black one?

I have one more questions if anyone knows, I checked around in the forums and I understood that the Vehicle Speed Sensor wire is Yellow and it is under the steering wheel but I could not see any cables there, someone mentioned also that it can be used by connecting to the PIN 14 there - do you think I should do the PIN 14 since I see that there or just try to find that wire - could it be placed somewhere into the center dash behind the stereo or it is definitely somewhere under the steering wheel.

Thanks,

Svetlin

I second that^^.......its not that hard to take it out. The whole job should have taken a hour at least. Unless your going to wire the harness into your stock one then maybe a little longer. I did one for a friend that took 30 min and wired the harness, you just need to know where things are and what bolts undo what. Save some money for a manual.
