This is my first post, so I'm new here, but I have lurked for a while. I understand from DSMtalk that some of the VRSF guys are on this board so I'm posting this here. I just received the newest front mount intercooler from VRSF and I'm eager to get it installed. :D

I was looking through some old installation threads so I don't know if this applies to the newest kit. One of the old threads mentioned the direction that the J pipe points can affect whether or not everything lines up. I currently have an Evo3 16g with a Forced Performance J pipe that discharges to the passenger side of the front engine mount. From what I have read I get the impression that I may need a VRSF J pipe that discharges towards the drivers side. Can I use my present J pipe or do I need a new one?

The other question I have pertains to the mounting bolts supplied with the kit. There are two long ones and two short ones. Is there any specific location that they screw in to? ie Can I reuse existing bolt holes for the fog lights? Do they need to be drilled and or tapped for a different thread? Or do I need to drill a new hole for them? Where do the long ones go, where do the short ones go?

I understand that you would like to research what your about to under go but seriously... try some stuff out for yourself. Go try use your bolts in the fog holes and see what happens.
As for the jpipe, the make the kit to fit with this jpipe. If it doesnt fit with the jpipe they offer, then your probably doing something wrong.

good job into choosing the VRSF FMIC man :hellyeah:. To make the kit work with your 16g you need to get the VRSF J-pipe as well. yes you can reuse the existing fog light holes, just got to get some smaller bolts.

(by the way the long bolts are to secure that FMIC into the fog light holes and the smaller ones are for the BOV)

If you need any help let me know and I can give you some technical support if needed :)

Thanks a lot for responding and the offer of help guys. I was afraid I was going to need the VRSF J pipe to clear that motor mount. I have the bumper cover and bumper tore off right now so I hate to wait. Hopefully I can mount it then do the piping when i get the J pipe.

The short bolts for the BOV make sense. Thanks for solving that mystery for me.

I tried to thread one of the long bolts into the into the fog light bolthole but it wouldn't go. So I am going to assume that I have to drill and tap them. I'll probably go for smaller bolts if I can find grade 8 that size. Do you know what size and thread pitch those bolt holes are?

I didn't think about it at the time I was ordering but am I going to need a gasket to mount the upper pipe to the intake manifold?

Where did you buy the fmic kit from if you don't mind my asking? And could you post pics of it installed?

Here is where I purchased it from. Mangina24 is the vendor.

From what I understand about it, it is their latest version and I had to wait a month for them to get it in and ship it. So I assume I am one of the first people using this model. The core itself looks just like the one in this thread so I guess it's just new piping that is meant to be shortest route. I don't have a camera right now but there are pictures of essentially the same kit installed on other cars on here. This is a comparison of the VRSF to the earlier SSAC that it was derived from.

This one had a lot of useful information too. In fact now that I reread it I realize that it was Tiago from VRSF that I got the idea that my J pipe won't work.

Here is the earlier SSAC version which should give you a little more idea of what it looks like mounted.

I think in one of those threads I also found a link for how to get the bumper cover off. Finding the bolt on the bottom of the headlights kicked my ass and made that a much more difficult job. There are four bolts, one upper, one lower almost directly underneath it, and two on the side. I am going to be stalled for a little while waiting to order up and recieve a VRSF J pipe.

But so far it seems like it was a good deal $341.00 with shipping. From what I have read it is more than capable of reaching my goals. Right now I'm shooting for 300 hp because it's an older engine and transmission. When it comes time for a rebuild I am thinking of going to a 4G64 and the goal I have for that is 400 hp, though I might try to get more. The main thing I want is driveability and responsiveness so I like the idea of short routing instead of routing through the sidemount location.

does the throttle body elbow need to be modified/cut for the gm maf to fit without pushing the intercooler forward?if so how much should i get cut? about 2 inches or less? please help is it expensive to have a shop cut and weld aluminum?
i put the gm maf on the other day but it pushed the intercooler forward way too much and now i think i need to cut the elbow for it to fit right

Yes you need to cut the elbow a couple of inches. You dont need to pay someone else, its pretty easy to do. Cut a little off at a time untill you are satisfied.
