How much did it cost you to paint the center panel of the tail light? What part do you paint? I want to keep the eclipse emblem on it? I beemn trying to find a tutorial but no gold

To paint the center without painting the Eclipse logo... will be very, very hard! Unless someone knows a good easy way to uninstall the logo so you can paint the center peice and then reinstall the logo... cause I couldn't!

my buddy did it to his by carefully masking off the letters and spraying around it

so you just paint over the center tail? You dont have to remove it first, sand, primer or anything like that?

Can you tell me where to buy the paint?
What is needed? Primer, stripper, sandpaper?

Depends on what color your car is, you can possibly paint match a color at Autozone... and you dont need to primer it... I'd just grab some sanding pads... like a 320grit and sand it down to roughen up the surface a bit... then spray it down with brake cleaner! Not carb cleaner, that has lube in it... you want to get all the oily based junk off of it before the paint will even think about sticking.

What I'd say... mask off the letters using a razor blade... just be easy with it all and you'll do perfect!

Painting the center tail the same color as the car, is about as good as it gets with taillights on the 2g's.

I have seen people take that center section to a shop that does custom vinyl graphics and just get a vinyl sticker, color of your choice put on it. That way if you decide later on in life that you dont like it you just peel it off. Looks good too. An idea!

Anyone have a picture of a 2g that's the blueish grey color (can't remember the name of it at the moment) and has smoked tails? Yes I've searched. I'm asking because I have some friends in a auto body class/shop that will do it for free and I wanna see a picture so I can decide if I wanna do it or not.

P.S. If you dont know the color I'm talking about look at my profile.

So I bought some Nightshade and did it the right way. I polished each piece so I don't have that matte orange peel finish. It's honestly shinier then paint itself.

3 coats of Nightshade, then one coat of Clear, wetsand with 2000 grit, repeat twice.
Then polish with buffer and turtle wax scratch remover, finally a nice coat of wax.:thumb:

I'd prefer to spray the nightshade on the inside of the tails, I think that is the right way... that way the OEM clear is still used... looks like OEM Smoked tails.

I used 3 coat of Nightshade on the inside of the lights then wayted 2days to dry and here is the final product...

Did you use vht?
It probally took me a little longer but i still kepd the stock clear on the out side but i like the way they turned out i just gota figure out how to tint the middle peice..:)

Yeah I used VHT, I'm not going to be so quick to doubt my custom clear like you twoLOL. I sprayied it, let it dry, clear coated it, let it dry, wet sanded, did this twice. I'm sure itll hold up as long as the car does.
