97 4G63, LOL I was just looking for that picture. After seeing the way you did it, thats the way I'm going to do it to my EDM Tails.

As for the center peice, I can do that for you... or if you want I'll tell you how to do it...To do it properly, to get it to match the rest of the tails perfect...

wow mines alot darker for 3 coats.
The reason is he painted the insides... So the actual red lens was left to be seen, you painted over the lens. When the lights are on, I am willing to bet the light output will be about the same. Just a hint.

Your car looks EXACTLY like mine. I have the same Motegi rims, but I haven't shaded my tail lights yet. I plan on doing it during thanksgiving break. Im just doing the middle oval thing and leaving the outer lights regular color.

Well to be honest all i did is got a can of vht and sprayd the tint into the whole of all the bulb mouting holes so it get's inside of the lense then just shake the whole light around and make sure it looks about the same then wait about 30min and repeat the prosses...
I bet nobody thout of that...LOL

Not bad outcome then...

For the center tail, there are two ways you can do it. The easiest way, you have to take the center piece and separate it. Then you need to take a wire brush or air sand the silver reflective paint off of the back side. Thats why the lenses look the way they do. If you get all of the paint off, it should black it out enough to look like the other two tail lights. I don't belive it will look the same tho, but will be dark.

The harder way, is to do what you did before, then tint the backside with the VHT just like how you did the tail lights, then you gotta paint the inside (black piece) a reflective chrome or silver paint to get the looks of tail lights. That way you will have a smoked center piece with the reflective paint on the inside.

Yeah i think i will separate it seems way easier pluss i can get the center peice for $10 any day if a mess up..
I know you told somebody how to open up a tail light in the oven before but i don't remember if it's suppose to be 200 or 300 dregrees?

Just throw it in for a few minutes on 300..... if you can see the glue, poke it with something to see if its able to be moved. If the glue is too hard, you'll #### up.

So just throw it in for a few minutes at 300, then separate the lens. Clean up the residue... you really don't need glue cause there are two huge holes in the center piece. . . So when you finish sanding and doing the rest (depends on what you plan on doing), you can put the piece back together and there you go. Its easy to separate after that.

Make sure you know where all the snap points are, there are about 4 on top and bottom and one on each end... start on one end and move on over and it should start to come apart.

That's what i'm gone try next i hope it works..

DSMZOOM and 97 4G63...

Can you post pics of how they look at night with the lights on and then with the brakes applied. If the light output is good, then I will do it to my car.

For anyone who wants a write up on it:

1 can of VHT NightShade
1 can of clear coat
1 pack of 2000 grit sandpaper
1 scratch and haze remover compound(Note: I used buffing machine)
1 utility knife
1 roll of painters tape
1 wax

First, disconnect all harnesses and connections and remove taillights. Next I masked off the reverse lights with masking tape. Lay the tape over the lights and take the utility knife and carefully cut around the lights.***NOTE:Do not tint over the reverse lights, any clear lenses reflects the color red, so unless you want red reverse lights do not tint. Next set up a painters table to spray at waist level. After you have your nice table set up, prep the lights with soap and water and wipe dry.

When you begin painting make sure you keep it approximately 8 inches away. Spray the desired amount of coats but frequently wipe nozzle or it will drip and its over.:D I sprayed three coats.

When your finished applying coats let it dry for 15-20 minutes. Next apply your clear coat, I used duplicolor clear coat enamel. When you've finished applying the clear coat let it dry for 5-10 minutes then wet sand with 2000 grit paper. It'll look very hazy and have fine scratches but don't freak. After you wet sand apply another coat of clear and let dry. Wet sand this coat aswell.**Note I applied three coats of clear but 2 coats is ample enough. Next apply your polishing compound and buff off. I used a professional buffing machine and did this twice. Now it should be shinning, but your not done just yet, apply your best wax and buff. Now you can see the true shine. This whole project took me 4 hours, and looks amazing.:)

For mine I was just gonna buy stock taillights(I have hideous altezzaz right now that came w/ the car), use the VHT to smoke them and since I'm repainting my car anyways, just paint the centerpiece too. [=

Alright i bought some VHT night shades to tint my talon tails black but i'm starting to sketch about getting puled over with this .....

What do you guys think of entirely red tails ? anyone have any pics of talons or eclipses with tails tinted red??

Ive always wanted to tint my taillights and side markers to match my black car, so when my friend bought some niteshade to do his, I was able to do mine as well since it was a big can. This was my first time attempting this and for some reason it took so many coats of tint to get the right color because when sanding with 2000 grit, color would always fade. Anyways here are the pics:

What you guys think? Also you cant tell in pics, but up close (like real upclose) in the corner part of the taillight you see tiny dots from clear coat, is there anyway to fix that? Would sanding it more and adding more clearcoat fix it?
