the new paint looks a little dull. but i like the idea. :thumb:

what do you mean? it is nightshade, not paint, so its not going to completely cover the color, its still transparent.

I like it a lot, best looking thing to do with the talon tails, and cheaper than doing the eclipse conversion. Got it on my 1gb...

Do you have any full body shots of the car with the nightshade? Looks good :thumb:

Yeah, well, I'm just getting kinda T-O'ed. I haven't even got to take a full body shot yet. :p

I'll probably take some more pictures on friday (my next day off) during the day when i can wash the whole car and polish those lights a little more. :talon:

it was $11 bucks for 1 can of nightshades and forgot what I paid for a small can of silver rustoleum to paint the "talon"

How hard was it to paint the "TALON" and how did you do it? I want to do that to these but I cant think of a way to make a stencil for it. Do you have any more pictures of those tails up close?

Any suggestions for what color i should paint the "TALON" ? I was thinking color matching my gold wheels might look good, but it could turn out to look like total crap, too. Maybe just a plain white? red to match the rest of the tails? im thinking a dull/off white.

there's this wonderful new invention, i think it just came out a few days ago, but it's called masking tape :D

Sorry no more really, noticed it was wrecked that I had very few pictures of it :( But yeah I just took the center tail piece off, taped off the letters with masking tape and the of the tails with newspaper. That is actually the hardest and longes part. I used a brush because I couldn't find the color I wanted in a spay can, but if ou mask the whole thing off, I think it would probably be easier to use some sort of spry paint. Oh and I can't remeber if i used plastic primer or not, but it would probably be a good idea.

how do you get away with not having any tail lights? WTF

I barely get away with it. The brakes are fine, it's the running lights that ae a little dim.

You should rewire your turn signals to use your brake lights. I remeber seeing someone do that a long time ago back on dsmtalk, they used a clear lens decal (like on nascar) to cover the amber part of the tails and then rewired the turn signals to use the bottom lights. just a thought.

I'll see what trouble I catch first, I usually don't get any, and the car is pretty visable.

Took some pics of the car today. kind of a crappy day out though so they arent the best. I'm liking them more and more.

I figured i could use masking tape duhhhhh LOL i jjust figured that wouldnt get it perfect and it it did it would be extreme tedious and probably just piss me off LOL. Ill see what i can pull off though.

hey guys,

i want to tint my headlights, but i want nice even shading and DO NOT want to use any kind of spray on crap. I know there are clear film protectors for headlights and i seen some yellow tint to imitate rally car look for sti's etc.

Where can i get that stuff??? Do they come in regular dark tint??

thanks.

I've seen smoked, but not yellow. Thank goodness. Leave the jaundicemobiles to the French, who deserve them.
Or, own a set for five years and they'll probably be yellow as all get-out.

The usual course to yellow headlights is to use yellow bulbs, although in some cases it's just a transparent coating of yellow on the reflectors.

There was a guy I knew back when I had my old car that made all kinds of vinyl kits for head and tail lights. To red out the tails and such. Looked really good. if your looking to smoke your head and tails, look through vinyl selections on a few sites. I'm sure they have some sort of transparent smoked color you could buy a roll of and DIY.

So I just bought clear tails for my car and I want to smoke them but I dont want them blacked out. I want the grey tint. Is there a spray or film I can use and which is better? I have gunmetal rims, carbon fiber hood, smoked bumper lens, stock black housing headlights and all black leather interior and I think the smoked tails would go nicely with all of those...
The picture below is GinNBoost and is the perfect example of what I want. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks...

You may wish to contact the guys at Sticker City. I met them at SEMA this year and they seem to be really good guys.

Right now they are riding the current wave that is 'blacked out headlights/taillights' films but I'm sure they offer different shades of their films for use.

Found this picture on their site under Bulk Film .. may fit your needs if you lay it out, and trim the excess.

The product most people use to tint/smoke tailights is VHT Niteshades spray. You can usually find it on ebay, try looking under "tint spray".

To get a smoked but not blacked out look, all you have to do is use less coats.

Hey guys,

I own a 98 Eclipse with a cracked center tail light. Instead of replacing it with another 'light' I am thinking about getting one of those paintable covers that match the body of the car (like the one in the pic below). You see them often on show cars and modded rides. So far I have been unable to find them anywhere except for one on Ebay. Does anyone know where I can find one of these or are they something that has to be custom made? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

-Jeff
