Bought a set of Stock evo valves and springs. Turns out 4 of the exhaust valves are bent. Hopefully I can work something out with the seller on that side of things. I'm a little ticked right now but anyways I'm trying to weigh my options. I would really love to find 4 evo valves or replacement valves that are close to the same weight. The evo valves are 8.6 grams lighter than the 1g valves I have are 53.1 grams vs 44.5 grams. I really don't want to spend 35 ish dollars a valve for new OEM so I'm trying to see if anyone has weights of aftermarket valves like Supertech or GSC. I really want to stick with using the stock guides on this build so can't go with ferrea or manely stainless altho those may be the only valves close in weight.

If anyone has any other suggestions on routes to go any advice is appreciated. This threw me for a loop so I'm all scatter brained right now.

Thanks for any help guys!

Because hard chrome can gall/wear iron guides.

Op, I have ran a set of black nitrde stainless ones from Jackson auto machine, and loved them. I also use supertech blacknitride. They are +1mm so idk about weight. Also unless this is a Max effort deal with 300* cams a set of basic kiggly steel street beehives will be fine with any valve weight. Even basic single springs will work with heavy valves and milder cams (less than tx272/gscs2 types)

Don't waste your time with used evo springs..

Used stainless valves on stock guides on hundreds of valves, no problems with wear after 100k miles on them whatsoever because they all have had chrome/nitrided valve stems allowing them to be used in steel guides, if they dont the manufacturer will tell you not to use them in steel guides, I've also used the JAM valves and I like the GSC stainless valves too, they too are nitrided but not black.

Supertech nitirided exhaust valve 50.3 gms
Supertech nitrided intake valve 54.3 gms
Both are black nitrided and standard size.
I run these to 9k+ with their titanium retainers.
How much difference is there in EVO retainers compaired to DSM's compaired to titanium? Usually thats where I see weight differences is in the retainers unless it is a sodium filled valve but I haven't ever ran an EVO set.

The only thing to worry about would be using a stainless steel valve that doesn't have a hard coating or chrome stems, but 95% of stainless valves do have one or the other, you would almost be going out of your way to find one that didn't, in those cases you you would run those cheaper valves in a bronze or sintered metal guide material.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I was always under the impression as bastarddsm stated that the ss valves will gall factory guides but knowing that they coat the SS valves was helpful. Reading about the GSC valves it looks like they are nitrated so if I can run those that will be great.

Now I'm having issues with the guy that I bought the valves from. He said that the valves came from a running engine and that the valves weren't bent because none of the guides in his head where cracked. I'm trying to be understanding and work with him but he keeps insisting the valves weren't bent when he sent them to me. Valves are pretty hard to bend so I know they had to have been bent before I got them since all I did was clean all the carbon off on a brass wire wheel and then tried to lap them and found them bent. Since a few valves where still good I asked if he could maybe partially refund me but he said he doesn't have the money anymore. I dont want to take a payapl case out since I'll have to send everything back and the springs and valves where bought together. 177 shipped for everything. Attached some pics of the valves. What do you guys think.

Although these are bent just a little ROFL you said you have a few bent valves. I have bent them REMOVING them if your not smart about it, which I obviously wasn't but that was a long time ago. DSM valves can bend relatively easy if not removed correctly. They're cute little things compaired to my SBC valves. Spin them in a drill and video the head. That should be enough proof of if they are or aren't bent. Good luck! :hellyeah:

Those valves are not only bent, but by the time you took enough off of them to reface them the margin on them is going to be junk, they are bad in more than one way even if they weren't bent, those are just stock valves though, how many do you need? I'm sure that I have four exhaust valves around, they aren't necessarily Evo exhaust valves but if that's not important to you then I'm sure I can get you four if you needed them.

I'm still waiting on this guy to let me know if his buddy has 4 extra evo valves he can send me. I'm hoping he does cuz I hate to take a paypal case out and deal with that but if I have to I guess thats what I gotta do since he says he doesn't have any money to refund me.

If thats what happens I'll need 8 valves instead of 4 since I'll ship his stuff back to him but if I work something out where I end up needing just 4 I'll shoot you a message. Thanks!
