Ok here is the situation:
I'm in the middle of a rebuild and kicking around piston setups. I am looking for a daily driver so a full forged racing setup doesn't seem the route to go but am also aiming for 350-400hp on a 16g turbo. I tore the motor down and the pistons in the motor had some previous valve damage on them so I picked up another set of used 1G piston / rod combo from a member here in town. They look good, no valve damage, good skirts, etc but I can't get over putting used pistons back in the motor. So I am looking at the frankenstein kits over at dsmgraveyard and would like to get user input on the following.

ITM or NPR 2G piston on 1G rod kit
OEM 2G piston on 1G rod kit
EVO 9 piston on 1G rod kit

Use the included rings or buy oem?
Recommended to change the squirters to EVO squirters?
The 2G kit sounds good but the block has been decked and am sure the head will also so I am concerned about the compression ratio. Read that the EVO 9 setup will keep the CR down.
 
Basic OE 1G rods with 2G pistons will put you where you'd like. ;) People have made great power on that setup. Just make sure that if you get anything used that you have them inspected and checked to ensure that they are within tolerance. I would also go with fitting the rings yourself, or having a shop do it for you to ensure that they are exactly where they need to be.

OEM 2G pistons or ITM / NPR?
 
I would get a new set of weiscos.

it could be just me but, i would never try to put used piston into my block. Because the take form of the car that they were in before. I cant see it by eye and you can get the measures, but a lot of times you end up with premature engine wear, such as scared cylinder walls, oil burning, and piston slaping.

I work for chrysler and we've had problems like this before, the usually happen when a tech makes a mistakes and changes the position of the pistons, for like puting number 1 piston in number 6 cylinder, we sometimes get problems from that.

If the piston isn't damaged and the piston to cylinder clearance is good than it will be fine to reuse pistons.
 
Was worried about piston re-use also and thats what pushed me towards a new NPR setup. Forged would be great and everything but it will be a daily driver, etc.
 
i agree with you bryanwheat, but there is a lot of cases where people get wrong measurement and end up with major engine porblems.
 
I would definitely go with ITM or NPR for a budget build we've had good luck with them up here..:thumb:

Just make sure if you go with NPR, you get (Nippon Piston Rings).. There is another china brand on ebay called NPR also (Nippon Piston Racing) I wouldn't trust those.
