Hello guys just had a question about my 95 GSX build. I have a 6bolt block and a 7bolt 2g head, I want to use the 2g head on the 1g block but wanted to know if I could use a 2g oil pump in order to be able to mount the crank sensor in its original place just to make all the wiring a bit easier. I know the marks will be different so just curious to see if this is going to go work. :hmm:

Thanks for the feedback on the matter black_gst. I have seen both of these approaches in doing a swap but its a bit different on what im trying to accomplish. The front case is your oil pump and the crank sensor does mount into it. The 1g case does not have the mounting holes for the crank sensor and esencially the block should be the same except the timing marks will change. I guess my question is if anyone has completed a swap like mine: 2g head on a 1G block and keeping the crank and cam sensor.

Jimbob thanks for that input as im trying to learn more on the subject I would like to know first hand if anyone has achieved this in the past. I have also read about other dsmers doing this swap and im just trying to find out if it can be done.

Yes, it can be (and has been) done.

If it was a 1G 7-bolt block (though I assume you have a 6-bolt block), you could bolt up the 2G head and oil pump/front case without any issues.

For a 6-bolt, aside from modifying the front case as black_gst linked to, you can purchase this nifty device from Kiggly Racing - kigglyracing.com. It must be noted that the front balance shaft must be eliminated for that to work. The other method to retain the 2G crank sensor is to install a Hyundai 6-bolt front cover.

if you look at the 2nd link i posted you will see a diagram of the front case and it is highlighted what needs to be done, theres drilling grinding welding and tapping of holes that must be done to do this.

Ok thanks for the info I have read all the info on the links you sent me and its a lot of help. I did see the Kiggly racing approach and its pretty ingenius at $210.00 that could be an option. I will need to price out the Hyundai approach, which seems a little more intricate but not sure which is the most cost effective. The best part is that both of these modifications are fairly simple. Thanks again and I will definitely use either of the two, thank you wiseman and black_gst your help was greatly appreciated.

OK guys update on pricing for the Hyundai approach total retail price

1.) angle blade $16.00
2.) crank angle sensor $138.95
3.) front oil pump case $415.41

All OEM parts from Hyundai, pretty expensive it looks like the Kiggly approach might be the best and most cost effective route.
