Car sat for a year before buying, has been daily driven now for 4 weeks.

Replaced battery 3 weeks ago for a new one.

So today I started the car in reverse (I have a clutch bypass, so foot wasn't on clutch) and it stalled instantly, I got this person with an suv to boost me, but they were mentioning how they have a weak battery because it needs boosting a lot. It never started.

My dad came in with the civic and boosted, took 3 attempts, first it was clicking, and nothing, then it turned on.

Drove around for 15 minutes, after 1 minute of driving the battery light came on. then 10 minutes later the anti lock light came on, got home. Turned it off tried to turn it on and completely dead. Oh and when I turned it off the wipers moved.

How does this at all affect the alternator from stalling I'm confused?

Also if it is the alternator, where is it on a 420a engine, is it hard to replace?

Was the battery dead when you replaced it? Did you check to see if the alt was good after the new battery install? There are many factors that could be at place here. To me it sounds like the alt was already bad or loose wires at play. Finally when you started your car in reverse(you should fix that btw) it put such a big load on the battery that it drained it the rest of the way.

Charge the battery, start the car and get your meter out and test the volts on the battery. Put your clutch switch back in. It's there for a safety reason.

yeah i was confused on how i could blow the alternator from stalling or starting the car. But i have a clutch by pass because there's a car started system in this car, but the function isn't working, like I've stalled a couple times in 1st with the new battery but it started up just fine.

And where is the alternator

Find your belts that is a start. Then look for a shiny aluminum round (6-8") thing that has a pulley on it that is driven by one of your belts. It should have one kinda tbick wire bolted on a lug on the side that doesn't have a pulley and a plug with some wires coming out on that same side. That would be your alternator. It should have a belt on it and you moght have to follow a belt to find it but its usually obvious. Hope that helps.

The alt on the 420a is on the passenger side by the firewall. Before you proceed with anything else on the car that you go and get a manual for the car.

So if the volts on the battery are good, then it's most likely wiring/alternator?

Well I also got a quick tester for alternator and battery checker through the cig lighter/power output and a multimeter.

Take the car to your local auto parts store or repair facility and have them do a load test on the charging system. Autozone/advance auto/orieleys will do it for free and determine if the alternator is the problem.

And as stated, alternator is on the passenger side between the engine and firewall mounted low. Easiest to access from the bottom with the car on a lift, jackstands, or ramps.

I tested the battery with the multimeter 20v setting and it read 12.6v with the car off, and then I tried boosting it, didn't turn on. So i let the cables sit there for 10 minutes to charge the battery, and it still didn't turn on.

What is it doing when you turn the key?

0 sound, and nothing at all, no lights can turn, no hazard lights. Even with the cables on and boosting.

My friend suggested it could be the starter motor and sticking, and I should try tapping it with a hammer lightly while trying to turn it, is that correct? Also where is the starter motor

You my friend need to buy a book. Instead of trying to get feed every bit of info of where some of the most common parts of a vehicle. No offence.

I would have bought a book couple weeks ago when I replaced my abs pump motor, but all most of the nearby automotive stars has their haynes manual sold out for 2g-3g eclipse. I would have bought a book earlier today, but they didn't have any. If I could have gotten I would have. Even if I wanted one now I wouldn't be able to receive it for a week.

Well thanks for everybodies help, as well of other people on facebook. I narrowed it down to my cable, we removed the cover for the cables and part of the cable is worn and chewed up, which is the cable to the starter.

I was going to say it is the wires. I had that problem and found my main ground cable was jacked up. Last weekend I was running hot 230*f again another ground wire had broke off.

I would go through and re solder all wires, I tool yesterday and re did all mine. Had a few to finish today. Good job on fixing the problem though,

I would still go ahead and order a book for the car. Order it now so that way you have it for when the next issue arises. Also grab the free downloads for your car either from the link previously posted or from Download Useful Files - SymTech Laboratories . The downloads will go more in depth than the haynes manuals but both are nice to have.

For getting downloads from the link I provided, just email them to get a download key. It's free and you can grab everything you would need for the 420a. When you email them, tell them that you saw a link on DSMTUNERS.
