Please respond only if you have experience or factual information..thanks... Now we all know that the upper door trims are looking like crap....I am in the process of ordering and replacing my upper door trims from www.machv.com ....has anyone ordered the upper door trim ( http://www.machv.com/19updoortrim.html ) if so let me know how long hard it was and what you think of the door trims now that they're replaced thanks...

When me and my dad painted my car we removed all the old moldings, painted the car, then put all brand new ones back on. It definatly makes it look like a new brand new car and they make a big difference especially if yours are peeling showing the silver underneath like mine were. Installation is no biggy

For those who have changed the upper door trim themselves; Is there a DIY tech article on this or anything? I've tried takin the old ones off to install the new pieces, but I can't figure out what all is holding it on (screws, brackets, clips, ect...).

there are no instructions that come with it, basically all you do is open your door, there is some kind of soft insulation stuff that lines the upper part of the door. It comes off pretty easily, just pull on it, afterwards you will see a whole bunch of screws take those out and pull the thing out. When you get the trim and you look at it, you will get an idea of how it is suppose to come off/go on. I did mine before I got my car painted.

i plan on taking them off, sanding them down and painting them flat black.

that seems pretty easy but i have a feeling im gonna fk something up...so u gotta pull some kind of insulation off? does it go back on or what?

I'll take some pics of it, the only problem I had when putting everything back together is the insulation stuff. It goes back on but I believe if you want it to really stay on there, put some kind of glue.

thats really dumb i thought it would be a simple process but aparently not...oh well im sure ill figure it out post some pics if u can....hey guy who wants to sand his down.....i woudltn advise it...i started to sand it n its a pain in the a$$ n just makes a mess...pluss the rubber coating it comes iwth originally looks so much better then a solid black with metal behind it would look...but its up to u

Exactly correct, the only part that could be a PITA for ya is getting the insulation back on correctly. As far as pulling it off, make sure you take a look at exactly how it goes back in. Same w/ the 9 or so screws holding the moldings in, take a look at exactly how it looks b4 you take it off. Nothing worse then having pieces and no map in your head of how to put em. Its an easy install, took me 20 min for both sides.

Hey 96TSi_Chris, did you have to use any kind of adhesive or anything to get the insulation to stay in place once you put it back on?

Nope, it just took a little bit of time and patience to get them back to where they were originally. It can be a pain, but if you look at where they were b4 you start its not too tough. Just make sure its done right the first time, so it doesnt look like ass and its secure b/c it will come out if its not in right.

No prob bro :thumb:

Yeah it's a PITA to get the insulation back correctly, you gotta make sure that the sideview mirrors don't smush the insulation, and if you don't get it on correctly, you will probably not have a seal and will end up hearing the wind whistling through it while your driving. Mine does it but I'm used to it.

What I tried to do when putting the insulation back in was start in the top corner ot the door, the top is simple to put back but the vertical part is the most difficult since there has to be just enough to put the fasteners on but also so that the top corner doesn't come out.
