i recently had a question on my t-25 in a response some one brought up the idea to upgrade to a 14b. and the other threads agreed on this.

1. which dsm does the 14b come off of.

2. is this turbo a direct bolt on, or do i need new parts to install

3. how much more boost is it over the stock t-25 i boost 10 psi if my boost guage is correct.

4. do i have to change fuel components and ecu

1: they came off the 1G dsm with manual transmisiion

2: They will bolt right in to the stock manifold/o2 housing. But you will need new oil inlet lines. new/modified oil return, new/modified water lines, and a new j pipe. A instal kit will run you about $200-250 depending where you buy it from

3: The 14b is more powerful than the t-25, you can boost it to 15lbs on a stock fuel management (althougt a pump is recommended)

4: 3 should answer it.

depends on how you tune.....i have a 14b with a rewired stock pump and i can run 17psi safely. Its a good idea to use some kind of data logger to see whats going on.

just wondering if i put like a 190pump will i need anythign else for it to work like something to control fuel or anything?

If you mean a piggyback like a SAFC-II, then no. That will only really be required once you upgrade injectors.

you can run a 190 pump by itself without injectors or safc. if you rewire the stock pump, you might be able to get away with running 17-18psi....i'd definately invest in a logger of some sorts, just to be safe and monitor whats exactly is going on. i just recently did this swap on my 96 tsi awd. it is possible to install it without spending 200-250 on an install kit. i custom made everything. my total (including turbo) was around $160 for the swap. then i sold the old t25 for $130 on ebay :D

its not really about how much boost, its more about the AMOUNT of air the turbo flows. the stock t25 flows around 325 cfm, whereas the 14b flows around 400 cfm....

its a very worthwhile swap IMO. i'm running 15psi on the stock fuel system and i pull on my buddies gst (he has the same mods i do, but with the t25 and he's running 18psi) from a roll and i'm AWD Auto! :D

On RRE's site they have a table under fuel, Link , and in that table it says for a 14b you will need a new fuel pump. However that would be great if all that was needed was re-wire, is anyone else running a 14b with just a re-wire?

i got the 14b on my 2g gst, i got a 190 fuel pump from a 3/s guy. (they sell them cheap when they upgrade) stock injectors. i've run around 18psi, no problem, datalogged, egt, etc. trapped 106mph with that set up. DONT WASTE MONEY ON THE 2G INSTALL KIT!! just buy a j pipe from someone used, or make one, and get an oil feed/banjo bolt off of a 1st gen somewhere, and file your holes in your t25 return to make it fit, cap off the waterlines (turbotime it!) and thats about it. it cost me like 50 bux total for all that stuff. versus the 250 bux or whatever the overpriced shops charge.

Thank you, I was just about to say that.

Never pay $250 for some install kit. It is way overpriced. I paid like $50 for my J-pipe (used) and I built my own oil feed line for $13. I bent the stock water lines to fit and modified the stock oil return to fit. So I spent $63. And the power difference is huge. I'll never drive on a T25 again.

Thats what I like to hear. I just picked up a 14b w/ piping for 55 bux.. :thumb: It should even have the J pipe I think so I just gotta work out something for the lines.. hehe

How much does a good condition 14b usually run for?

I'm just wondering, I may come to acquire a 95 tsi awd w/ a stock t25 and an extra t25 with like 40k on it. I may just sell both of those turbos and upgrade to a 14b.

I will have one after saturday when I upgrade again.. it has a 7cm exhaust housing from a big 16g that has been ported to remove boost creep.. and a spring (custom installed :thumb: ) that raise the boost level from 10 psi to 14 psi.. $100 PM or email me if you might be interested. (will include the oil & coolant lines)

If you look hard enough, you can pick one up in the $100-$130 range. But $150 is not a bad price for one in great shape, low miles, and zero shaft play. (I got mine for free. I bought a parts car for $200. I kept the 14b and parted the rest of the car out for about $550)

You can usually sell a T25 in good shape for $75-$120. If you sell 2 of them, you'll have plenty of money to do a 14b swap. :thumb:

Yeah 14b was an awesome upgrade for me as well cant believe i thought my car was fast with the t25 comparing the two is like apples to oranges. Iam actually selling my whole setup right now 14b coolant lines dejon tool jpipe and licp rre upper ic pipe and dejon upper S pipe with a crushed 1gbov along with a HRC SUPER smic only thing needed for it being a truly bolt on affair for a 2g is the ss oil line, like mentioned above you can make one or buy one for about 30dollars. If interested pm me

I'm about to go to the junkyard tomorrow, and hopefully I'll find a manual 1g.

I'm planning to upgrade my 2g T-25 to a 14b also. Along with the turbo, I plan to pickup a 1g BOV, J-Pipe, oil feed line, oil return, and water line.

I can get all of those things off the 1g witha 14b i'm assuming?? And should I take the intake manifold as well? I've heard that its alot stronger than the 2g manifold.

Anything else I should know about before i head there tomorrow?? Thx in advance.

Does this mean that I would need a new exhaust manifold for my otherwise stock GSX? (the car has upgraded turbo piping, intercooler piping, custom exhaust, and greddy muffler)

No, you can use the existing manifold, but porting is recommended. :thumb:
