Upgrade or stock rebuild?

I bought the car not running and that ended up being the power transistor. Now that I have the car running, the valves sound really loud. I did a compression test to see if the block also needed a rebuild (supposably rebuilt before I bought it) and it came out 138-121-139-141. The car is completely stock (still has air box cover and all). My goal for the car is 300-350 hp. Should I rebuild the head with oem parts or upgrade?

Stock rebuild will be just fine for your application.

I would just reinforce the block and get it built strong the first time. YOu may think you only want 300-350 hp now, but the hp bug will bite you and you would've wished you just did it right the first time.
Many tuners say the same thing when they started. .. Look at all of us now.

Stock rebuild would be fine with a few different parts. I would suggest BSE, head studs, upgraded springs/retainers, and cams. That would be pretty solid for the power you want or more.

1g rods and 2g pistons.. Cheap to do, cheap to get and can withstand a good amount of power=]

If you do decide to do a cheap rod and piston combo Look into doing 1g rods with evo 9 pistons. There just as cheap as the 2g pistons and alot stronger. Thats what im currently doing.

^^ I would go with the 1g rods and evo 9 piston like 92talontsibryce said, then upgrade the spring and retainer just incase you want to throw a set of cams on later down the line.

I know the more hp bug will bite in time, but I don't want to build a 9 second car in a day. I want to enjoy this one and build slow and drive it. Since it seems the stock rebuild will hold, I think I'll just go that route.
