I'm thinking about getting an uicp w/ tb elbow, and a hard intake pipe. I am looking for a little better spool time, as well as some nicer turbo/bov sounds :D

Are these peices worth buying?

btw, i dont plan on getting a front mount or maf-t in the near future.

Yes they are worth buying, they are not going to give you massive increase in spool time but its just going to help overall with airflow. Mainly when upgrading to hard pipes it just one less thing to worry about that may cause a leak. Since the rubber piping can crack causing boost leaks.

Dejon tool is one of the best, good product for the money and they make booth intercooler piping and intake piping.

You don't need to upgrade your BOV. Your stock 1G is a proven performer.

Also, keep in mind that the bypass valve/blow off valve is a functioning part of the engine's turbo system, not a noise maker. Don't waste your money on parts for the "cool sounds".

The 2G TB elbow is a good upgrade for a 1G car.

For quicker spool, look into upgrading/porting your exhaust manifold and porting your turbine housing.

I would have to second the comment about dejontool's products. They're priced right, look amazing, are easy to install, and perform great. I would look there to get an idea of what you want, then look around some other reputable DSM vendors for their variations on the theme.

If you find you would like to put on a 2g TB elbow, or whatever you get doesn't include that section, I have one that I could probably just put in a box and mail to you, if you wanted. It's at my parents' house, but next time I'm up there, I'm going to be grabbing some stuff and bringing it back to my place. So if you want it, let me know and I'll make sure to pick that up too. If not, I'll probably put it in the classifieds or something. :)

i have both the uicp and licp from dejon tool. both is a good upgrade. the flow of air is much better compare to the stock rubber/plastic piping. since when rubber get hot it expand. i also have a hard intake pipe which i find a very good cheap upgrade.

what about buying used pipes? I am looking into this for my car. Should they be identical in sizes. I probably will buy the upper and lower from two different people. One is 2 1/4" Im not sure what the other is. I need intercooler piping (car didn't come with it) so i figured why not get the good stuff...used though, because I'm poor ;).

Yes it does help with airflow, and like someone mentioned they won't crack like rubber hoses, so you won't need to worry about a leak occuring.

When I installed it on my old 2g AWD, I did notice the difference in spool up.:thumb: And yes I heard the turbo/bov better. :thumb: :thumb:

Stay boostin

Pipe is pipe. Other than possible cosmetic issues, used IC piping will be just like new IC piping.

I am actually considering making my own. My friend tig welds, and his boss is really good at it. Either way I have someone to tig weld it for me for free, AND they have a metal band saw etc for cutting pipe... Sounds like i just need some pre-mandrel bent pipe and a BOV flange and the TB flange or w/e. I am going to research and see where I can get these flanges but it sounds a LOT cheaper than buying 100 dollars worth of dejon tool pipes.

ok, since i posted that, i have done some research. I found out, useing a tech article from this site, that it will cost me roughly 54 dollars to make an Upper intercooler pipe with the help of a friend tig welding it for me for free. The only question I have is what to use for the couplers. I could buy silicone high pressure hose from RRE but it will cost 20 bucks a foot. One foot is enough, but still, 20 dollars is 20 dollars when you are working on a budget like I am. Point is, i have a question. In another write up in the tech articles, a guy used 2.5 inch pcv couplers from a hardware store. will this work...and work well? Also, I need to figure out what kind of pressure the lower intercooler hose needs to be. I called the local performance shop and they dont sell the piece, so I need to get high pressure hose (more silicone 20 bucks a ft stuff). However, If i could get the psi readings, I might be able to get some stuff from a truck supply place for alot less or even just use high pressure rubber hose from autozone. So, does anyone know the psi ratings that intercooler hose/pipe experiences? what does it have to be at a minimum?

Thanks guys,

Zach

The Brode 2G UICP pipe i just installed came with a piece of NAPA angled rubber hose for a connector. Usually after the intercooler that should be fine because the temps aren't nearly as high.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I am gonna go ahead and order them. Ya i already have a ported 2g manifold, and i plan on keeping the stock bov. I just want to spend some money on functional stuff ;).

I really don't plan on modding the car much more after this, except for a new clutch anyways. I'm probably gonna start saving for something newer and more reliable, LOL.
