is it normal for my turbo not to spool when my car is in park/neutral (auto trans) It spools fine when driving, but not when im in neutral or park. If it is normal is there a way to make it spool?

I don't know if you guys caught the part about the school or not but I wouldn't recommend anyone to do a brake stand at a school or any public place for that matter. If my daughter got hit by some punk trying to show off his car to a stupid focus I would for sure be doing 25 to life for murder. Report me if you want but that's my story and im sticking to it.

Yeah like everyone said it wont build pressure in park, And as far as building on the foot brake i wouldnt in a parking lot especially near a school. Videos everywhere of it going wrong and hitting people and other cars

Just a little add on.. if you are actually building significant boost not in gear (without launch control or anti-lag) you probably have a giant timing problem.

My tensioner failed and my timing jumped at the crank, it was off by who knows how much but I could actually sit there and build 9 psi in park.

Well that probably wouldn't be a good idea considering he owns an AWD TSI.

I also strongly agree with everyone else, you don't need to waste your time on a Focus, that the equivalent of some kid trying to show off in a Civic, even Type R's don't compete with TSI's, sometimes not even the ESI's, but that's more driver skill than specs. At least in my experience.

Not sure where you get your info from, but a Type r swap / Integra type R B18c5/k20a(faster) will spank the crap out of a TSI auto stock vs stock.

If it's been motor swapped, then it shouldn't qualify as "stock"

Stock engine swap is a ''stock engine'', swapped nothing else done to it.

That is very common thing done to Honda's.

He was referring to Type R's which some Honda owners do, since there was only one period where a
integra type r was sold here for a very short time very rare car to say the least.

Technically, the turbo does spool (or spin) at idle, at least with factory and smaller turbos. Larger turbo's may not spin, or as quick, because they require more exhaust flow which the engine may not provide. at idle.

Even the big turbos all spin at idle.

And I don't know about you guys, but my 16g will pull through the brakes if I'm not careful while brake boosting. I wouldn't recommend doing it anywhere unless you have a lot of clear pavement ahead. Let the guy rev all he wants. Who cares?

:) I love how this question comes up every week.

How this come back up, I posted it last school year.ROFL Anyway, I did end up finding out I can get spool and blow off in park if I do hit high rpms. Gosh such a old post.

So, lets compare apples to oranges. The Integra/Type R can cost about as much as a bone stock auto TSI. Then you add a couple grand for the motor swap. I would certainly hope that after investing that much money into a car, it would be able to beat a totally stock DSM. And you decided to pick on THE SLOWEST turbo DSM out there. You Honda guys ALWAYS have ways of making yourself feel better about the platform you pick, don't you?

Let me explain something.

The reason why your turbo needs "load" to spool is very simple. The more resistance on the motor, for example wind resistance or literally the road itself, the higher the combustion pressures are. The reason why this creates boost is because it is creating more exhaust pressure.

So lets say you are in third gear and you do a jump on a rally course even though you are in third gear this is very little resistance on the motor so you lose boost pressure while in the air. This would be assuming you don't have the standard anti-lag system almost all rally cars use these days.

It's actually pretty simple.

That's why my car made 515awhp, ran 11.50's at 130, idled perfectly, fuel trims +/- 5%, AND I could vent to atmosphere.. Oh yeah, try running a 50+lb/min turbo on a 1g MAS.

I didn't say they didn't work. There are much better things out there than a MAF-T. With a real tuning system, you probably could have made 550whp and had a ton more control over everything. I congratulate you for moving onto V3. At least now you can probably realize full potential of your setup. And yes, I've been there, done that...with a MAF-T ;)

Work on those driving skills a little bit, and you could easily be in the 10's!

For someone like Tim, on a budget, a MAF-T is perfect. It will allow him to achieve everything he wants to, injector control, etc. I know the car could have made substantially more power, but the converted 20g was at it's max.. I doubt there was much more in it. With v3 and my new setup I should easily see numbers in the 6's and there is no way I would look back to a MAF-T, but for a beginner a MAF-T may be the perfect solution to get them by. '60's were mid 1.8's due to the 3 bolt and stock trans. It now has a built trans a 4 bolt so 6000 rpm launches shouldn't be an issue on drag radials.

You have no idea what you're talking about and stay on topic I stopped talking about the Honda things in this thread from that very same post, and you're pretty closed minded Honda have better cylinder head flow and make crazy numbers.

You're a 2002 member you should KNOW better really to beat the ''slowest DSM'' if you used your brain I was talking in reference to someone else's post and the associated car of the topic.

I will not debate on that at all in here the thread point was pretty ridiculous to begin with ; a member with an auto TSI trying to taunt a Focus by revving...:nono: Seem like you just ate your own words maybe you should tell OP to not pick on Focus's.

Really.

How's the translator working out??

LOL thanks for checking up jon, to be honest I did not get it in yet. Im just going to get a FMIC and intergrate it into that, so hopefully soon. I already picked up a greddy BOV for it to. Thanks.

stock to me means what it rolls of the assembly line with. It is a motor upgrade.
So essentially I can swap a 500 hp corvette engine in a Chevy caviler and run you all day in it and still be considered stock it what you're saying right? Both Chevies, and a stock engine.

That's just silly tim..

Any swap should not be considered stock..It should be considered a motor swap, and then means the car is not stock..Like tim said stock is same engine it rolled of the line with...

off topic post real fast, were can I get a o2 housing bolt that connects it to the turbo, im missing one -_- Bud thats were that airgushing out is comming from that I was talking about a while back.
