Heres the situation. Lately (for about 2 months) I have noticed my turbo likes to whine slightly kind of like a supercharger (similar to the sound of wind blowing at a window in a house) Basically, I'll start my car up, and drive it around, and when the turbo just starts to spool I will here this whining sound as I described. Basically sounds like the wind, my friends sometimes ask me to close the moon roof because they don't understand whats really making the noise ROFL

Here is what I have tested so far.

Boost Leak Test - No boost leaks when tested at 25psi on the compressor and throttle body elbow.

WOT Test - Yeah, I do this a few times on occasion. But it will pull hard through all the gears, hard enough to leave those k20's behind once i'm in 3rd ;). (Definently NOT a boost leak as I get horrible bucking at WOT if i do)

Shaft Play Test - I felt the shaft of my turbo and there was no in and out play at all, it spun very freely, and the side to side play was barely barely noticeable (less than half a mm, the feeling of wiggling is probably just all in my head :p)

So I really am not sure what this is. I have had this whine for probably 2 months and my turbo pulls very hard for a t25 @ 15psi. (Tested Daily ROFL) My only guess, which is probably far off, is if possibly my open o2 housing is making a light whine at really low boost (doubt it, but i noticed it a few weeks after i installed my header, o2 housing, and 3in downpipe)

yea i would like to know that same thing bc mine does this too. i only noticed it after i installed my intercooler tho nothing with the exhaust

Water shows the way.. basically, got water leaking out where my header connects to my turbo, at the gasket it looks like. We had to re-use the oem gasket that was on there because at the time had nothing else and it looks to me the reason why it probably failed soon after. Any suggestions on what to use for a replacement gasket? Extremepsi has a 7cm gasket for $12 on their site.

I was looking at getting this one

I have an aftermarket many and my turbo made the same noise due to the crack in the stock many and two of the bolts that held the turbo to manny were finger tight. Now the thing screams!! (in a good way)

DSMs dont have headers, we have manifolds.
I got into a habbit of saying header. You can pretty much beat that topic until its dead, bring it back to life and repeat until the end of time. Everyone I've talked to around here looks at me funny when I say "tubular manifold", everyone calls it a header because its tubular. I just follow the lingo the local mechanics and tuners use. Oh well.
