my car has a wierd turbo whine when the car is cold and getting into boost, the higher the rpm goes the turbo whine sounds at a higher pitch. whats wierd is that when the car is at its operating temperature the turbo does not whine anymore, the turbo will whistle like any normal turbo. what can be wrong with the turbo when its cold?

you shouldnt be boosting when the car is cold anyways.. dont expect everything to work right without it at normal temp.

oh no i don't go full boost i only let it boost like at 1 psi so i can get the car moving a bit faster and i got a t-25 which the my turbo gets boost at low rpms

well usually when a turbo whines it means its going out the door. Dunno if temp has anything to do with that.

heh

mine does it too. the car also runs like crap and shifts weird when its cold. its because its cold. if it sounds fine when its warm its most likely nothing, if it is an obvious howling then your turbo has a remaining lifespan that can be measured in weeks

Wow this really proves how different cars are....when it's cold out (like it is now) my car runs great not even a peep from the lifters :)

my car is a south texas car and no my car (especially intercooler) doesn't like the heat. and well this is my first time with the car in winter that is why i was asking about the whining noises from the turbo.

we are talking about the first couple minutes after startup where the engine is cold, not cold wheather in gereral :)

all turbo cars love the cold.. denser air=more powa!

Take the intake off and wiggle the nut on the turbine. If it moves up/down more than a 1/32 or so then the turbo is shot.

My car would scream like a banshee at high boost. Turns out the turbo was shot.

My car does the same thing when it is cold the turbo queals. when it warms up it whistles like it should. Just warm your car up 5 min before you drive thats what I do.

the turbo is good just a little shaft play thats it i don't think the turbo is shot, no i never leave the defrost on.
