i got a eagle talon tsi awd, with a turbo thats on its way out, what would be a good turbo that will give more power and bolt right on??

Yes Yes Yes! Its a great turbo and it will bolt right on your 1g. Check your O2 housing but it should bolt right up. Also port at least the wastegate flapper area as they will only open 1/3 of the way! If your gonna take the time you might as well port the whole exhaust side of the turbo (compressor side should be fairly ported as is) and do the O2 housing too. Don't for get to replace your J-pipe to Compressor Gasket! :thumb:

Best straight bolt on is by far the evo 3 16g. I have a 17c and I'm looking to upgrade to a 50 or 57 trim or maybe even a hx35 turbo. These are still bolt on, because they bolt up to the mitsu exhaust manifold. I'm about ready to be done with the 17c, but the evo 3 has alot more potential and can run higher boost it is a great turbo. Good luck

well it will also depends on what your goals are. how much HP are you looking to achive? Keeping it as a DD? Do you have any other supporting mods for a turbo upgrade? i would do more reseach on what you want to do. there are plenty of other good cheap upgrades that will really make your turbo project more worth it. ps i have an EVOIII 16g and i love it

There are WAAAY too many factors that go into this. And it's all a matter of opinion too based on what your goals are. Search it up some and you will find what you need to know. I can't believe this is a thread really.

The way I see it why waste money rebuilding the 14b if he only plans to upgrade to the evo 3 anyway. run the evo 3 at stock boost until you get injectors and fuel pump, but as they said there is alot more that goes into than just slapping a turbo on and turning the boost up

I agree the Evo 3 would be a lot better, but you have to agree that for the price of what gpopshop will do to the 14b it is quite nice.

You have to remember though, even a e316g at stock boost is pushing a lot more cfm than a 14b at the same boost. I wouldn't put a bigger turbo on my car without at LEAST a logger to know what a safe psi is.

True true, but an evo 3 on stock boost will be fine until he upgrades. I ran the 17c on my stock fuel system on about 13 psi and didn't have any problems and it flows 550cfm. He should be fine with an evo 3 on stock boost. I wouldn't turn boost up though with out a logger to see what the idc's are at.

very true but he will be ok. The 1g should be able to handle it for sure. If he had a 2g i would be a little more worried.
14b 405
t25 250
E3 550

It would be about the same as a 2g going from a stock to a 14b to a and a 1g going to a e316g

Still though, a logger would be a stupid thing NOT to have switching turbos. Even stock turbos.

Whats the wheel on a 17c? I've never even heard of that till just recently. It's a mitsu housing i assume?

For running stock boost he wouldn't need a loger unless hes running 12 plus stock boost on the 1g is 9psi. you don't even feel the turbo at all especally if the turbo is the only upgrade he will have done to the car.

But if you have any plans of turning up the boost i would get a loger asap

Agreed. Check out Extremepsi for a great deal on Evo 3 turbos and other parts.

I would defenitly get the Evo III make sure you port it and upgrade the flapper. Extremepsi is on back order 3-4 weeks I think the only place that has them is TurboChargers.com.

This should be close to the same thing. I don't know alot about it except they can't push alot of boost, but they make decent power and i got mine for a trade on a 14b. I plan on upgrading soon though to a 50trim variation or larger.

Stock 1g boost is 11.5 not 9. And i agree, it's probably not a HUGE deal if he keeps it stock, but you never know what can happen on an older motor with just a couple more cfm.

Not to mention a logger can be had for so cheap it's really dumb not to have. I evern used mine when i put on IC piping. Just to make sure. So i really wouldn't throw on a whole new turbo without even logging it, even at stock boost. Thats just getting into bad habits, and you can really never be to safe. Unless you have gobs of money and don't care about your motor. But personally, i play it safe, always.

Def pick up a logger the same time you pick up the turbo and be safe. I'll probably sell the 17c before to much longer.
