1G Turbo Trans in N/A car Will NA flywheel work

Question pertains to a 1993 NT Eclipse and 1991 Turbo FWD Trans

I know a turbo transmission can be used on an Non-turbo car. I just can't figure out if I can use the NT flywheel or if I HAVE to have a Turbo FWD flywheel. The car is NT and the engine is probably not pushing more than 160 horse at best so I'm not worried about the clutch slipping.


If you don't care why I'm asking you don't need to read any further. If you are curious why..... I'm racing at a circle track that I'll doing about 75 MPH into the corners and the Turbo transmission gear ratios are way better for that speed than the NT transmission is. I have a turbo transmission that I picked up a while back but I don't have any of the flywheel/clutch components.

As-is, no, the N/A flywheel would not work with a FWD turbo transmission. Reason being - the flywheels are different overall diameters, the FWD turbo is larger than the N/A. This means the starter is in a different position, further away from the crankshaft center since it mounts to the transmission. The starter will not engage the flywheel if you tried to use this combination. Starter plate must also match the transmission.
