black lick,
can someone give me some info on turbo timers? like what do they do and so on
thanks:dsm:

Fans wont come on unless the key is on in the on position. I dont think a TT emulates that condition, and thats why the fans dont work. But I dont have one to know for sure ;)

Nope, on my wife's '97 talon the fans will NEVER turn on when on the turbo timer. I overheated after a couple of 1/4 mile passes and I thought that a 5 minute cooldown was necessary. It idled for 5 minutes and the fans never turned on, the temp gauge was all the way up there. So i tried letting it idle with the AC on and nope, fans still off.

well somethin else is wrong with her car then...at least IMO...cause like HPF_MK3T said..All the turbo timer does is bypass the electrical on the ignition switch to keep the car running after the key is removed...i dont own a turbo timer let alone a turbo car....but im an mobileaudio installer and the same sorta stuff occurs with remote starters, and starter kills on alarms..., if i hotwired a car the fan would still turn on...a turbo timer is kinda like hot wiring a car....with a timer on it...if you get what im trying to say LOL.....not to cause any fights...thats just my electrical point of veiw.

The way that thing sems to be wired is that when you turnd the ignition key off it kills everything exept the ECU and ignition. Everything else dies, AC, fans, stereo etc.

my fan still turns on by itself when the timer runs by itself. i can hear the fan go on after i let it sit there for a while

TSi92 My 95 does the exact same thing. My fan does not come on when I take the key out to leave it with the turbo timer running. If I put the key back in and turn it on the fan runs pull the key fan quits. I didn't get a harness so I just follwed a guide and spliced into 12+ accessory and IGN 1 I wonder if I change to IGN 2 if that will keep the fan running. My car overheats as well if I leave it with the timer running Im trying to figure a way out right now to get around this.

got mine used for $50, spent $3 on a harness, spent like 3 hours installing it (i couldnt get the ignition harness apart!) and now i forget i even have it. it's so nice being able to walk away from your car and not have to let it cool down manually. its funny to when people are like "hey, you're car's still running."

I have heard that it's pointless to use a TT if you are using synthetic oil. That is, if you're so concerned with the oil coking. Anyone care to comment?

IMO it's can't hurt...If you buy a car with a turbo timer already on it, it shows the car and turbo will last longer and be more reliable. Also, if you already have a lot of mods, then you eventually get to a point to where no other parts you need for the car cost $100 or less, so, why not spend the paycheck on this. Anyway, $100 is an overrated price for it, I see them floating around trader and classifieds for $50 w. the harness.

like masterT, i just like seeing people in walmart parking lot look at me walk away from my running car like I'm retarded, turn to get in their vehicle and then look back as my car shuts off with a puzzled look on their face. i know I'm amused easily but it's funny.
Ive got enough laughs and dumb questions like "hey buddy are ya gonna shut yer car off?" to pay for my turbo timer 3 times over. oh and it helps prevent a bit of unwanted wear on my turbo, but that's not really important.

I read on another site that a TT is pointless if you are using synthetic oil because it does not coke like regular oil. If I remember correctly the thing on the visor, which I tore off so I can't check it now, says something about letting the car idle for a minute or so after driving on the highway at fast speeds, when the turbo is boosting a little or most of the time. The site also said that if you drive through a neighboorhood or slow traffic where you are not spooling the turbo before you turn it off, this is enough to cool it off.
