I agree. The low spoiler or no spoiler "flows" alot nicer IMO. But any spoiler can be used.

Yes, this is possible, but it looks ugly IMO.

You would have to remove your low spoiler and have all the holes welded shut. Then obviously paint it all to match. Then line up the high spoiler and drill the 4 holes for mounting. Then put it on. Doesn't sound like much, but wouldn't be worth it as the high spoiler looks really odd with the top down.

Stick with what you have!

sorry about the topic being covered, i checked the suggested ones before posting and nothing was in there...thanks for the information...it does look alittle ugly with the top down I agree, and since I drive it 99% of the time with the top down, I'll stick with the 3 piece. Thanks everyone...

Of course, what is 'ugly' to some is preferrable to others. When I put the turbo wing on my Spyder, I did it for me, not for anyone else. If that is what you like, do it! Do not give in to peer pressure! !

haha your absolutely right about that, but with the top up they do look pretty nice, but I do agree that with the top down they look sort of out of place...I'd love to see one in person to see how good they looked instead of pictures but unfortunately I dont know anyone with one installed

if i were you i put on a smaller wing. the high rise turbo spoiler was put on the coupes for a reason. thats why they didnt throw them on the spyders cause they looked rediculous. but thats just my opinion

i did the body work myself and the paint wouldnt suggest the paint though i did a bad job but its fine cause once i order my turbo spoiler and a new driver side fender im getting the whole car painted

I'm in the process of converting to a 97 body style and this is what i've found.

I got my spoiler for free props to easy for that.
But you could count on atleast 100 for that.

Don't bondo the holes.
Have them welded.

Now you're looking at having both quarter panels and the hatch painted along with the spoiler.

Depending on where you go.
If you go to a good reputable shop you're looking at about 800-1000
If you go to just a hole in the wall shop it could be anywhere from 500-800
Just spend the money, you'll be happy.
And don't go to maaco.

I changed my spoiler last spring. Mine was only hatch work - no quarter panels. Weld holes shut, drill new holes, paint and install of new spoiler. They cut me a deal @ $700.

I took my spoiler off and if i remember correctly had to remove the wiper along with it. It wasn't too hard and I really don't see the point in having a back wiper so I never put it back on but that did leave me with a large hole to fill along with all of the small ones from the spoiler. On a scale of 1 to 10 removing the spoiler was about a 2.

As far as mounting the new spoiler the only hard part is going to be drilling the holes in the correct spot. I plan on just eyeballing it and putting some chalk marks where my holes need to go and going to the hardware store to get the right size bolts and washers to attach it. I've kind of fallen in love with how the car looks wingless though

If i recall correctly on most dsm's if you remove the interior panels on the hatch, it has all the spots premarked from the inside for every applicable spoiler, eagle or mitsu, turbo or n/t. I could be wrong but I recall reading this once. I will search for the thread...

Yeah take a look at my eclipse pics for wingless point of view. I'm about to throw the turbo spoiler on. I Just got mine done painted black.

eclipses and talons are the same exact car so yes a turbo spoiler will fit.. as for removing the talon spoiler thers a thread that explains this but here is a summarized version real quick

1. take off the hook that latches your hatch to the release

2. take off the panel underneath the hatch

3. take the screws out from your spoiler

4. there will be velcro underneath your spoiler to hold it down so when you hear a ripping sound thats wut it was. also, im assuming that if there is velcro holding ## wing down there will likely be glue holding the velcro down.

i dunno how hard it will be to get the velcro off but as a detailer at a dealership the best way to remove anything with glue is by heating it up to loosen the glue, then you can tear it off, remove the remaining glue with laquer thinner (rubbing alcohol might work too) then depedning on if you care about the paint where the glue was, you might wana wax where you laquered.

5. then plug the wholes in or wutever u want to do
i also like that idea of just switching hatches with an eclipse.. BRILLIANT

i like the turbo spoiler too but i also like evos and stis with ther big wings and since evos and dsms are somewhat similiar, i got a gtr wing that im putting on my talon.. i mean, call it ricer, but thats just callin stock evos and stis ricer right? just no big aluminum spoilers

We're getting off topic but i would like to chime in
I agree, no big fast and furious wings, its pointless and unless you have a RWD car it takes away the downforce on the front of the care, therefore steals horsepower. The stock spoilers on our cars went threw hours of Aero testing and are made specifically to creat the right amount of downforce, just as the evo and sti do with their wings. I see where you are coming from, and i do not believe it will make you a "ricer" everyone has their own opinions. I just chose the DSM stock look.




But John your install should be as easy as removal, repair, prep, and install. Good luck and i look forward to seeing your rs sporting its new look!
