Turbo identification....

Ok i just had my engine replaced in my 99gst spyder with one my mechanic had at his shop. The engine he replaced it with had its own manifold and turbo but he said he used the one that was on it because the one he had in his shop somehow didnt fit which i found odd. It was something about the piping to the intercooler being different that was throwing him off. Did mitsubishi use different model turbos throughout the last few years? Are there any numbers that are in the turbo that identify the model that i should be aware of?

Oh btw i need to replace ny turbo that's why im asking

It was probably a 16g, 14b, or 13g turbo.

Yes they switched up the turbo models a little bit after the 1g's (13g, 14b, 16g) and the 2g's from what I know came with t20, t25's.....I believe I got that right. There's big forum already on turbo identification, I'll try and find the link for you.

This should help you identify which turbo's which.

How do i tell which is which? And is the piping to the intercooler any different between those models?

Any info on where i can get a cheap used turbo would be cool too. I just wanna get this thing on the road already

your best bet would be to look through the classifieds on here for a turbo.

And in my opinion your best off getting a rebuilt turbo so you have peace of mind, but remember turbo's AREN'T CHEAP!
