Turbo Boost Creep Creeping T25 14B 16G [Merged]

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

I had boost creep with full 3inch exhaust with no cat. I had my 14B ported and 2G O2 housing ported and it still crept. I put on an external dump O2 housing and problem solved. Except it was too damn loud, I ended up porting the 2G housing even more and put it back on (no creep).

Long story short, an external dump will cure it, but you cant beat a great porting job.

your very right. Ive never had a External dump .But i do have a o2 dump and just that alone helped alot.+ porting and your fine.Just what i think anyways LOL.

Looks like cracks to me. I went to port my 16g last night and i found a crack on the inlet, wastegate path, and wastegate seat.

are those cracks in the pictures of the ported 14b or are they just like scratches?

They are cracks .What 14b-16g doesnt have cracks haha.Doesnt matter though unless the wastegate hole is really bad where it wont hold boost.Other then that it wont hurt anything.

i searched on the site and found nothing but what exactly is boost creep because i have heard a few different things

While driving you will see your boost start say at 11 psi. As your rpms climb, so will your boost. You may hit 18psi before you shift into the next gear. You don't want this, you want your boost to stay steady. Boost creep can be caused by a couple things which you probably already saw the reasons while searching.

Boost creep is not to be confused with boost spike, in which case you hit a higher psi then it falls back down.

All i have is the o2 dump with a internal gated pte 50 trim. When i had my 16glaser i could hear it real good. But when the talon and that 50trim, i cant hear it because i run open exhaust most of the time .:shhh: cops dont like that haha

i dont get how a bigger flapper is supposed to help, i would think the smallest one possible would be better, then theres less in the way of the opening. but that doesnt answer my question, would geting a tubular o2 housing (like this one, DSM Talon Eclipse o2 housing Rec pipe 90-99 1g 2g 4g63 - (eBay.ca item 270233575697 end time 05-May-08 21:46:03 EDT)) eliminate or help reduce the amount of boost creep i am getting, ive already heard about the o2 dumps, and porting, and external wg.

thanks for the input, its appreciated
but id love an answer to this question

A bigger flapper allows a larger passage to be ported. You are right though, you will get to a point where it "shrouds" the flow- not as much gas can flow around the flapper as through the hole. I don't know where this point is but people have had luck with 34mm flappers.

A better flowing route after the WG hole and transition back into the main exhaust flow will help creep IF that is one of the main problems/bottlenecks to begin with. Most of the time this is not the case and will only marginally help. Each car/setup is different and your mileage may vary.

my car will sputter whenever you make any kind of boost or give it gas open to any kind of ideas to fix it

Sure wish someone would have given this guy an answer. I have a similar issue. It idles slightly rough, but I can pull it in and out of the shop fine. But if I try to take it out on the street it just boost spikes to the moon, hits fuel cut and such. I take good care of my car, but it does have 230K on the clock. It has recent iridium plugs, ngk wires. Its a mostly stock 95 gsx, with upper ic pipe, greddy bov, ported t25, aftermarket stainless exhaust mani. injen air filter, home depot mbc. I have comped it, and its all good, no exhaust leaks, no vacuum leaks (that I've found) tested the waste gate actuator, replaced it with a known good one. My MBC is plumbed off the bov vac line to the T at the compressor housing. Tried running the stock BCS (restrictor removed), still boost like mad. I don't have an aftermarket boost gauge in it tho.... Any help is appreciated. Im a tech, but I don't get alot of free time to mess with my own stuff, and have been pretty frustrated.
Thanks.

I have an HX-35 with the bullseye housing. It used to be internally gated with the 38mm flapper. But I took the door out and welded the hole from the actuator arm shut. I now run a Tial 38mm external WG off the O2 housinf and am still having boost creep issues. Even when connected directly from my boost source to the W/G it creeps up to 26 psi????
Just take the external WG and run it off your manifold. If you had creep due to your porting with the internal WG, what made you think that external WG would make those gases escape any faster? buy a flange and weld it on.

I personally don't like 34mm flappers, and don't recommend them since they are a compromise later down the road.

Before I suggest other options such as going external, why not upgrade your fuel system and support the higher boost pressure? It would perhaps be cheaper than most of your other options, and a great excuse :p Seems like more of a step in the right direction.

Or
Do the boost creep test indicated in this article:
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/art...boost-creep-modified-wga-peepers-mod-how.html
and see if it's lower than your desired boost pressure.

Or go external.

Perhaps even add a catalytic converter or any other slight restriction back into the exhaust... I wouldn't, but hey, it could help.

what is the conpromise?

More surface area = more likely to blow open at higher boost pressures; I don't know exactly what pressure that would be though.

hmm, i see. i did it on mine(34mm) but im still running stock BCS, hopefully when i up it to 20ish that does not happen LOL

i guess well see

How do you know that your getting boost creep without a Boost gauge?
Either way though, you need a boost gauge.
IMO dsm's should have came equipped with them :thumb:

As far as diagnosing the issue, do another boost leak test. (another one never hurt) Check your BOV, make sure the diaphragm in there is good and isn't leaking any air out. Also check around your throttle body and around you injectors. You may find a leak near the insulators. One easy way to try and help fix boost creep is by porting your O2 housing by allowing a better path of flow for you exhaust.

But first's first, Leak test. Let us know any findings.

Oh yeah, check you LICP just for kicks :thumb:

FYI... you should never feed your MBC off of your BOV line. Try feeding it either from your intake Mmnifold, or from the port on the turbo where the stock BCS was fed.

I currently have an EBAY e316g and had an 02 dump on it. When i had this setup i could hold 12psi no problem. My exhaust setup was a MR 3" downpipe and basically stock cat-back. I know i didnt have any creeping problems because of the cat-back.

I recently bought a tubular 02 housing to replace the dump because it was annoying as hell, and now i get creep to ~15psi in second and ~13-14 in third still set at 12psi. So obviously the tubular o2 housing doesn't flow as well as the o2 dump.

Now i am getting a keydiver chip, and putting in my 650's because i know that when i replace the cat-back the boost creep will sky rocket. I am just hoping that it doesn't creep any worst than about 20-21 psi, because that is what i am planning on running. I really dont want to have to yank the turbo off and port the wastegate passage.

How bad do you think this mother is gona creep? I don't have a cat by the way.

It would be especially nice if i could hear some creeping stories from some of you ebay 16g fellas.

Please dont tell me how shitty the ebay turbos are, i have heard enough.:beatentodeath:
