Well I've gone the bolt on route and all of that mess (see profile for mods) and I want to get into the actual tuning aspect of being a DSMer. I was thinking about starting with Apexi SAFC but I need some help with finding out what its all about to be honest with you all. Any explanations would be helpful. :thumb:

Thanks =]

The SAFC basically fools the computer into thinking less air is going into the engine while being able to turn the fuel up. the SAFC is only good for max 750cc injectors and the larger you go with injector size, the harder it would be to tune.

When people get the SAFC, it seems [most] use it in conjunction with a MAF+translator to get fine tuning done.

Which system would be the best to start off with?

Alright thanks man. I'll read that. Does anyone else want to share any of their wealth of knowledge on tuning?

I've had a safc and link, I would by far say link is more user friendly. I heard of CeddyMod, but haven't really looked into it since I have link. It has pretty much everything link has to offer and you already have the ecu for it.

You could get v3lite if you just barely want to get your feet wet.

I severely hate SAFC because it is just a band aid. When it fools the ECU on the air flow, well that might be great for the fueling aspect of the car, but what about the timing maps? This is it's major downfall. If you are going to start tuning, I would recommend one of the other solutions that were mentioned.

Get yourself a wideband and start tuning in stages. Add one thing at a time with a goal.

Example with Ceddy mod:

Ok first thing is to flash the ECU and make it run like stock

Then add a 2 step

Then calibrate MAF...

and so on

Do each one step at a time and you won't get too far in it and will learn a lot. This will give you a foundation.

If you have a more specific question on tuning, ask it.

I'm in the same boat, but worse, without my 2G in working order. :( Still have my sights on the V3Lite. Seems to be the right choice for beginners, but staying true to DSMLink. :)

Thats what Im leaning towards too. Im still unsure to be honest.
