so i have read that the 1g awd and fwd car trunk areas are different, something about the spare tire location, i have recently ordered from site sponser/vendor a rear carpet and it doesnt fit, hence the questions i have.

does anybody care to share some pics of both the trunk areas so i can clearly see the difference and see what other panels i need to get this think rocking and rolling.

pics of both the trunks will work, thanks

The awd carpet will be domed in the middle as round as a tire, a fwd will be just flat, my only guess is if you cant get it to fit the gold false floor bars must be missing with the wood floor pieces that the carpet rests on. these raise the carpet off the metal of the car about 2 inches or so.

all i have is pics of the stuff your probably missing

My awd has the stupid bump in the back...

Don't know anyone with a n/t..Or wait I actually do...He's asleep now so I can't ask him..

The N/T trunk is the same as all the other FWD trunks/ The only difference is the AWD trunk.

The FWD trunks sink down in the middle so when the spare tires is installed, and the carpet is placed over it, the trunk is completely flat. The AWD trunk has the hump as pictured above and when the spare tire is installed it sits above the rest of the trunk floor.

Here is a picture of my trunk taken while removing the sound deadening material and painting it:

Mitsubishi had to be a pain in the ass with this one..I hate that stupid bump...At least if the bump was like the n/t..You could put a peice of wood over it and have a flat trunk area...:banghead:

cool thanks so far,
any more pics?? full pics so i can see how it looks with the carpet installed, and then another so i can see what i was told some metal brackets and right behind the seat where the carpet lays down, thanks again

The rear diff pushes he gas tank back which is why the trunk goes up.

This does not sound correct. If I'm not mistakened the hump is there due to the rear diff being under it. If it was indeed due to he gas tank. How does everyone including me cut the hump out and weld in a flat piece?

But to the op. yes the only difference I can tell from having one of each is the awd tire hump goes up. Fwd "hump" goes down.

On FWD models the gas tank is under the rear seats and on AWD models its behind the diff/crossmember right under the trunk floor. That's why the hump can't go down and the spare tire needs to be secure, so they had to make the hump go up. I'm pretty sure there's nothing but space between the hump and tank which is how people can cut it out.
