Ok... I'm about to install a battery in the trunk of my 1g awd. On the pass side of the trunk, that pocket... There is this weird bracket there... what the hell is it? I think there are two brackets. What is that for? Anyone have a photo?

Also, the hump in the trunk... LOL. Is that just wasted space? Or is the fuel tank actually molded to that hump?

Pulling the fuel tank to clean it out, was wondering ahead of time cause if I can, I wanna cut that hump out and put some sheet metal in its place to make it a flat trunk.

you should take a pic of the brackets you are asking about.
What comes to mind is the braket to hold down the tool kit, with supplied rubber band.
The bracket for the jack.
But hard to say without know just which bracket you are referring to.

and couldn't tell ya about the hump... the lovely lady hump in your trunk... I would personally get underneath the car to try and see, but have never thought about what it is for, just that it's annoyingly in the way

Ok well... Two things in that area confuse me. There is that pocket that opens up... And inside there looks like Jack Mounts... Looks like the area for the jack. Then there are the brackets right infront of that lil cubby hole.

The picture was only reference to the hump...

I will take a picture when I get the car home this weekend.

Yep the tank is molded with a hump in the center. Kinda dumb. But the hump is for the spare tire to mount to. Also the brackets you are referring to hold up a peice of fiber board that is used to make the floor more flat with the spare in place. Then, a piece of carpet covers it all up. If you don't have a spare or the fiber board anymore I would remove them.

But the bracket is only on that side, and stands kinda tall, its like an inch off the floor. The one inside that cubby hole is for the jack right?

So you know for sure the tank is molded to that hump? Cause how does that area of the tank fill up with fuel? Its higher then the rest of the tank including the filler tube... It wouldn't fill that area up, unless you flipped the car over ... that area would just be filled with air.

I guess to do what I wanna do, I gotta install a fuel cell down there instead. I don't give a #### about a spare tire. I wanted to flatten it down and make a custom sub enclosure on the floor board like I did before on my 2G. So I still have my trunk. Originally I was going to make a sub enclosure for a small sub in that area on the pass side rear of the trunk, like how the Hyundai Tiburon sub is... But I'm workin on making my engine bay look awesome so I wanna get rid of the ABS and Battery. I'm trying to find a way to get more trunk space first (I guess fuel cell and cut out that hump), Install the Battery out of the way from the seats, incase I wanna put something in there, like my snowboards. and have heart pounding bass in a small enclosure. I had this box made to fit nice behind the seat through my old car audio/visual shop's box manufacture, but it was stolen. This time the enclosure is going to be BOLTED down to the ground and sub will be installed with custom screws so only I can remove it. Damn thieves.

There is a bracket in front of the jack area that orignally had a rubber strap that held down the jack tools (tire iron, etc). Not to uncommon for a car that old to have the tools go missing at some point... It is only on the passenger side.

I was nosin around with the back panels when I first got my car,and found the jack all nice and out of the way in that pocket. I do believe that hook is for the jack tools. I'm cutting it off to make way for a stealthbox-type enclosure. Right before fall I had some a$$ try to steal my 10yr old Fosgate amp and 5 yr old Sony sub...smashed my drivers side window even though I have a bright blue led for my alarm system. The system probably isn't worth the 50$ I paid for the glass at the salvage yard LOL! I'm going as low-profile as I can with my system now, plus I think it will be fun to(try)to work with fiberglass.

Ok, so that bracket thats like... 4-6" long, has some bolt holes or holes in it, just held down tools. Stupid looking bracket for that kinda stuff... I do belive that pocket is for the jack, even tho I can't figure out how to put the jack inside it. I just have tools in there. In the other pocket I have a few mini boxes with nuts, bolts, o rings, washers, clips and crap like that. I was originally going to make a sub enclosure for that pocket also... But I want my battery in the trunk and out of the damn way. And thats the only spot. I wish I could cut it all out on the driver side, next to the fuel tank and make a sheet metal pocket for the battery there.

Here we go... BTW I pulled my "Hand Made" carpet up and saw those lil hooks, I guess for the tools? But what the hell is this thing?

Can you circle what you're asking about? I've read the thread 3 times, actually de-plastic-ified (that's right) my trunk last week, and have no clue what you're asking.

gas tank shape for the hump and the bracket i thought was for the plastics to fasten to. (if i remember right.)

That bracket supports the cardboard that goes around the spare tire. There's 4 total. Looks like someone took out the longer ones and left that one behind. Just rip it out. You're obviously not using it.

It's what I said it was in my first post. What all of the other brackets that support the fiber board that goes around the spare tire. Check out this picture. It shows where the other brackets connect to it:

Holy crap! I thought... besides the trunk carpet and spare tire, my trunk was complete! Wow. Thanks alot guys! That piece has been bothering me for a while now. Since I swore my trunk was complete minus the carpet and spare tire.

This is a CAPS lookup of the parts that should be in the trunk:

Yeah, thats why I'm installing a fuel cell in the stock fuel tank's location. . . I can't stand that thing and I don't know why they would make the fuel tank do that, dunno how that extra space gets filled with fluids without some sort of vent, if not it just creates an air pocket and doesn't fill with fluids. Idiots.
