I have a couple things I need some help with, haven't been in this scene in a couple years and finally decided to do something with the one I have.

I Have a 95 TSi FWD automatic.

So the transmission is bad on it, so we think. It was at a local shop forever getting the transmission swapped and worked on. After it got worked on the trans went bad again and sat for over 2yrs.

Here's how the transmission acts; when you put it in drive/reverse it will go into gear but barely move when you get on the gas, as if you were barely pressing on the gas. The engine and turbo are fine, though it might be those but no. I've hear it sounds like it doesn't have trans fluid but it does and it's not burning up. So any suggestions on what it might be?

Another thought was to swap it out for a 5spd. I've seen a couple posts where people ask about the swap from auto to manual but none with a list of what's needed. What is everything that would be needed for the following:

(both swapping into the 95 fwd TSi automatic)
2g 5spd swap
or
1g 5spd swap

Only reason for considering the 1g 5spd is because I have came across 2 already for good prices but not sure about the whole 1g 2g mix and match or if that would just cause more hassles.

I know what I'll basically need like the obvious clutch, pedals, flywheel, etc. But not sure as to everything I'll need and not sure with the 1g what I'll need. Any help or suggestions on how to go about this or where to find some of the things I'll need is greatly appreciated.

Thanks and happy DSM'ing

There is a lot of info' on here regarding swapping the transmissions and I know of at least one person on here who did use a 1G mt in a 2G but I don't think it was plug-n-play by any means.

That's what I thought, but this guy who is selling a 93 trans says that it fits a 95. He said I would need the 7 bolt flywheel, 2g clutch, 2g 5spd trans cables; but I'm not sure if it would even work. Hence me posting it on here.

There is a ton of info and I'm reading more and more on it, but I also wanted to see if anyone has had that trans issue that I'm having or similar.

Only info I could provide, is I know a decent amount of people who swapped from automatics to manual but never changed the tcm and had it shifted like crap which I would think that's why.

Never changed the tcm? Sorry I'm a noob LOL.

From some reading, sounds like it would def be best to stay with a 2g trans.

I've also read that there might be some differences between the 95-96 and the 97-98-99 talon/eclipse trans, anyone have any details?

A TCM should have absolutely nothing to do with how a manual transmission shifts.

That information pertains to AWD cars only. You can use the lot from another turbo FWD 2G.

Got it, thx.

So now, if I were to swap it out with a 2g 5spd what is all the parts I need?

Also, anyone have any details as to the issue I'm having with the auto trans?
Goes into gear, barely moves when given gas, trans oil looks good and not burning up.

Did you change the filter? Personally I'd keep the auto and just fix it. I want an auto swap so badly.

Lol ya I've heard people say that but then I've had an auto so I want a 5spd badly.

The transmission fluid filter? No, haven't checked it yet, but I would have to assume they changed that out when the trans got swapped. Only thing if I wanna check that I would have to dump the trans fluid.

Any other suggestions as to what it might be?

It's okay to try searching on your own; here's some results I found by searching "manual swap" with the "Titles Only" option selected from the drop-down menu that normally says "All Posts". ;)

Converting a 1G FWD DSM Auto -- Although it is for a 1G, it has good info in it.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-drivetrain/381667-2g-awd-automatic-manual-transmission-swap.html -- Although it is for an AWD, it has good info in it.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/385887-gst-auto-manual-swap.html#post152377889 -- includes multiple links to different threads on the swap.

Be aware that automatic axles are not the same as manual axles; each of those axles also have ABS versions that are different from either of the non-ABS units.

Got it, that should cover majority for the 5spd swap.

But before I do that, I want to see if I can figure out this issue with the auto trans.

I think I'm just gonna have to drop it and see what looks wrong and post updates.

Maybe the end clutches are bad. Here's a link to installing end clutches on an auto.

End Clutch Install

Or the Torque Converter needs to be replaced. Those are the two things I can think of that would cause major slipping to occur.

As already said, you NEED a 2g trans for your car. 1g cars have three engine mounts and one trans mount. 2g cars have three trans mounts and one engine mount. So if you took a 1g trans and put it on a 2g car, you'd only have the driver and passenger side mounts and no front or rear mounts.

Ya the necessity of the 2g trans I got.

Thanks for the info on what might be wrong with the auto trans, I will have my brother in law who's my mechanic check it out. How can you check if those specific things are bad?
