Transmission wont shift until 3k+

Even giving it light gas it wont shift until its over 3k. Normal driving it waits till 4.

It has an eeprom tcu. But its not socketed. Could the shift points still been reprogrammed?

Are you talking about every shift? Just because when cold, my transmission will wait until 3k to make the 3 to 4 shift. When warm it will shift fine.

So does this happen just cold, or all the time?

nothing when you want to go fast, but just normal driving you just feel that a shift is way overdue. and obviously it's very bad mpg for a daily driver, which this car is.


the tranny is cold. I only got to drive it about 10 miles. I just bought the car and rebuilt the motor, so I don't know the history. also haven't passed emissions or registered it, hence I'm only brave enough to drive a few miles. This happens on all shifts and in 3rd gear I'm already speeding at 3k so I cant push it higher.

My 1-2 and 2-3 are a little high when cold but its most noticeable on my 3-4 shift. My first drive of the day will take the 3-4 shift till exactly 3 grand before shifting to overdrive ( #4 gear that is)

Get her legal and drive it a while. It takes more than 10 miles to warm the transmission.

You could have a tps or other electronic issue.

That's what I'm afraid of. When I first got the car the o2 sensor plug and solenoid plug were swapped. I've checked the tcu for codes using the multimeter and it's clear.

According to evoscan and a safc, tps works fine.
