Hi guys been a while
So I recently got a 90 1g gsx in pretty good shape for a 30 year old car!
Only issue is the grinding when shifting to 2nd gear or to 1st if I'm not at complete stop. If I shift slowly I get no grind at all rest of the gears work fine.
I'm assuming probably the syncros are shot. I was thinking can I replace the whole shaft with the gears from another transmission? Can I use a 92+ shaft which came with double syncros?
Thanks

I just had a conversation with somebody the other day..... Maybe Tim will chime in on my statement. I built a 90 for myself years ago and I want to say I used a 91 intermediate shaft so I could do a double cone synchro setup (which 91 didn't have but does fit) but I retained the 90 center diff because both 90 and 91 intermediate shaft will work with the 90 (or 91) center diff. For sure the reason you can't do a double cone in a 90 is the 90 intermediate shaft if physically smaller on teh bearing surfaces and hub spline for 1st and 2nd gear. To do a double cone and retain the 90 shaft you would have to custom machine stuff. It's not worth the effort when other parts could be had. No idea what is available anymore.

Thanks for your replys guys so what do you suggest? what is the better thing to do at this point? Should I just order parts and rebuild? Try and find a new trans? Sorry for the noob questions
Probably this weekend I'm going to drop the trans and have a better look at it. I'll update.
Thanks
