My transmission is making a humming noise, with the clutch in and out. It speeds up as the car speeds up and just wondering where/what I should check to try to narrow the problem down. I think its the transmission that is, both front wheels are tight, and the noise is from the front drivers side. The car is a 99 eclipse RS.

Not sure if its a tire, ill swap wheels this weekend and check it out, all the tires are pretty new. What do you mean by belt? It is a 5 speed manual transmission btw.

If it's a five speed might be the throw out bearing?

And check if it has oil

I would think that it may have something to do with the gears themselves. Does it happen in one gear in particualr or does it happen throgh all of them? Does the sound stop or reduce in severity when the clutch is engaged? Maybe try and take the car for a quick burst in one gear and depress the clutch and hold it in and listen to see if it calms down or stops. this may help to see if its the gears of the bearing
